New Cultural Magazine 'Central Apartment' Launching
A fresh voice in the world of culture,
'Central Apartment' has made its debut in Harajuku, featuring the legendary
Tamori on its cover. This new cultural magazine is a collaboration between
Ambitions, a subsidiary of
Alpha Drive, and
Tokyu Land Corporation, with a mission to showcase the vibrant culture and creativity of Harajuku.
The magazine's inaugural issue, edited by noted art director
Tetsuya Chihara, aims to reflect both the history and future of Harajuku through engaging articles and visuals. The magazine's name pays homage to a place that once fostered creativity and collaboration in the 1970s, where influential personalities like Tamori, Shigeru Itoi, and Shinpei Asai worked together. Chihara, who also serves as the representative of
Lemon Life, expressed his hopes for the magazine, indicating a desire to cultivate a similar creative environment.
The first issue includes a centerpiece titled
'Night', featuring an article on late-night fashion curated by actress and model
Kotona Minami. The magazine captures the essence of present-day Harajuku, featuring contributions from a diverse range of creators and artists, including
Yuuichi Yamamoto, a space producer, and
Kumai, a singer and actor. This sets the stage for an enriching reading experience.
'Central Apartment' will be available at various bookstores in the Harajuku area, including
Harakado and select national retailers. Priced at 700 yen (excluding tax), the magazine is set to hit the shelves on
November 20, 2025. Special promotions, including unique displays at
Daikanyama Tsutaya Bookstore and other bookstores across Japan, aim to further bolster its visibility.
Looking ahead, the magazine is committed to a biannual release schedule, with the next issue expected in the spring of 2026. The editors at
Harakado expressed their hope that this magazine will be a bridge connecting the cultural vibrance of Harajuku to future generations.
Comments from Harakado
“We see the launch of 'Central Apartment' as an opportunity to foster a connection between the enduring cultural spirit of Harajuku and future generations. We aim to weave a new narrative for Harajuku alongside this vibrant community. Our PR visuals embody our philosophy with the phrase 'HARAJUKU age.'”
Tetsuya Chihara's Thoughts
Chihara reflected, "The original Central Apartment in the 1970s was a breeding ground for collaborative projects. This magazine aims to recreate that essence of spontaneous creativity, which may sound ambitious, but I hope to inspire a similar spirit in our new publication."
