Emma Holland to Showcase Artwork for 53rd Mayfaire by-the-Lake Festival
Emma Holland to Feature at Mayfaire by-the-Lake 2025
The Ashley Gibson Barnett Museum of Art (The AGB) at Florida Southern College has proudly announced that Emma Holland will be the featured poster artist for the upcoming 2025 Mayfaire by-the-Lake event. This marks the 53rd year of this beloved fine art festival, a cherished tradition that occurs annually over Mother's Day Weekend.
Scheduled to take place from May 10 to May 11 at the scenic Lake Morton in Lakeland, Florida, this year's Mayfaire is set to be a celebration of creativity, community, and the natural beauty of the area. The museum, known for its commitment to promoting both emerging and established artists, will showcase Holland's stunning work on all promotional materials related to the event, including posters and merchandise.
Holland, a resident of Largo, Florida, is renowned for her extraordinary talent in creating animal portraits through various innovative mixed media techniques. Her captivating artistry perfectly encapsulates the essence of Mayfaire, particularly reflecting the elegant swans that grace Lake Morton, blending realism with a touch of expressionism. The festival's theme revolves around this iconic imagery, and Holland’s unique artistic voice makes her the perfect fit to continue this longstanding tradition.
Dr. Alex Rich, the executive director and chief curator of The AGB, expressed enthusiasm about Holland's involvement, stating, “For 53 years now, the swan has become the symbol of Mayfaire, and with Emma’s unique take on our city’s storied avian emblems, we keep the tradition going.” This sentiment resonates deeply with the festival's aim to honor local artistic endeavors while fostering connections with the community.
The featured artwork titled 'Swan's Special Garden' represents an elegant swan against a lush green backdrop adorned with roses and other delicate flowers. Holland’s technique utilizes a mixture of oil paint, acrylics, art paper, wallpaper, and colored inks, showcasing layers that provide depth and emotional resonance. This stunning centerpiece is designed to capture attendees' imaginations, serving as a visual symbol of the festival's lively atmosphere.
Joy Williams, Mayfaire coordinator, noted Holland’s vibrant colors and distinctive mixed media approach in her work. She remarked, “We chose Emma Holland as this year’s poster artist because we loved her unique style of capturing the swans on Lake Morton while incorporating the surrounding gardens.” This selection marks Holland's debut at Mayfaire, promising to add a fresh voice to the festival's legacy.
As part of the festival, Mayfaire continues to engage the community with sponsors like Citizens Bank & Trust, Visit Central Florida, Southern Homes, and multiple media outlets, further enriching the experience for all involved. The event is designed to not only showcase art but foster a welcoming space where families can come together to appreciate the beauty of creative expression.
