Discover Seasonal Delights at Jizakana
As winter sets in, Jizakana, the seafood izakaya with locations in Tokyo and Saitama, showcases an array of seasonal dishes that are sure to excite food enthusiasts. Every month, Jizakana crafts limited-time menu items using fresh, seasonal ingredients, and January 2024 is no exception. In a celebration of culinary creativity, they have unveiled
seven distinct offerings, highlighted by the expertise of the
Hyper Dried Fish Creator, Yoshitaka Fujima.
Monthly Highlights
From January 1 to January 31, diners can indulge in an extraordinary menu that brings together traditional Japanese flavors and modern cuisine. Among the standout dishes is the
saba mirin boshi, a premium mackerel product crafted under the supervision of Fujima himself. This dish has garnered an impressive following, so much so that it has a waiting list of over a year for delivery orders through Fujima’s shop.
The
saba mirin boshi, priced at 990 yen (inclusive of tax 1,089 yen), captures the essence of rich flavors that are essential to Japanese cuisine. This special dish will only be available for a limited time, making it a must-try for anyone seeking a unique taste experience.
More Delightful Offerings
In addition to the mackerel, the menu features the
frosted napa cabbage tempura (霜降り白菜の天ぷら), priced at 420 yen (462 yen including tax). This dish showcases napa cabbage that has been naturally sweetened by frost, creating a delicate flavor profile that pairs beautifully with the crispy tempura batter.
Next, there's the
fried wakasagi (わかさぎの磯辺揚げ) for 490 yen (539 yen including tax), perfect as a delightful snack paired with drinks. The fish is coated with a fragrant seaweed batter and fried to crispy perfection.
The culinary adventure continues with the
tiger egg sushi roll (べっ甲玉子 鉄火巻き), offered at 590 yen (649 yen including tax). Known for its celebratory association, this dish features eggs marinated in miso, giving it a bright, auspicious appearance, which aligns perfectly with the spirit of the New Year.
Another traditional dish is the
fugu konbu zuke nigiri (ふぐ昆布〆握り) at 490 yen (539 yen including tax). This delicacy highlights the natural flavors of fugu, or pufferfish, beautifully preserved with kelp, allowing diners to experience a taste of Japanese tradition.
Rounding off the menu are dishes like the
ankimo gunkanmaki (あん肝軍艦) for 490 yen (539 yen including tax), often referred to as the foie gras of the sea, and the
cod milt gunkanmaki (たら白子軍艦) for 450 yen (495 yen including tax), featuring generous portions of this seasonal delicacy.
