ChangAn Automobile's Vast Ocean Plan: Europe as a Strategic Hub for Global Growth

ChangAn Automobile's Strategic Expansion into Europe

In a significant move during March 2025, ChangAn Automobile, a leading company specializing in intelligent low-carbon vehicle technology, announced the launch of its brands—CHANG-AN, DEEPAL, and AVATR—in Europe, coinciding with the 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations between China and the EU. This event marks a pivotal phase in ChangAn's Vast Ocean Plan, aimed at enhancing its technological competitiveness and establishing a strong presence in Europe.

Since initiating the Vast Ocean Plan in April 2023, ChangAn has undergone a transformative journey in its global strategy, expanding its international footprint through multiple key milestones. The launch in Southeast Asia occurred in November 2023, followed by entry into Latin America and the Middle East by mid-2024. In September 2024, the establishment of a German subsidiary further solidified its European engagement.

ChangAn currently operates several manufacturing bases across China and the Asia-Pacific region, with a global R&D presence spanning ten countries and a dedicated team of 18,000 experts. Its extensive network of subsidiaries, factories, and dealerships supports its international growth and cooperative initiatives, resulting in a remarkable increase in overseas sales. In 2024, ChangAn sold 536,196 vehicles internationally, a 49.6% increase year-on-year, with January 2025 alone witnessing sales of 62,016 units—a 10% rise.

Having originally entered the European market in 2003, ChangAn established a European design center to leverage global design trends and enhance its R&D capabilities. This integrated system, encompassing research, production, and sales, has fostered trust in the brand. By expanding its European presence, ChangAn enhances its R&D capabilities and addresses local market demands, with technical centers playing a crucial role in innovation and integrating Europe’s automotive expertise.

As ChangAn approaches 2025, it remains committed to a long-term, localization-driven strategy focused on sustainable growth and deeper market integration. The European expansion enables compliance with stringent industry standards and builds consumer trust. Furthermore, the company is streamlining local production and supply chains by implementing region-specific models to meet diverse market needs.

While expanding globally, ChangAn is also devoted to safety through rigorous testing and adherence to international standards. The five-star Euro NCAP rating of the DEEPAL S07 in late 2023 underscores the company's commitment to quality and safety. Additionally, ChangAn has adopted the ISO 45001 safety management system, ensuring a safe operational environment as it strengthens its position in Europe and beyond.

"ChangAn is an open and collaborative company driven by a clear mission to produce sustainable vehicles that benefit people," stated Zhu Huarong, Chairman of ChangAn Automobile. "We continuously learn from Europe— a hub of innovation and home to leading global automotive companies."

With a vision for deepened collaborative innovation among its global partners, ChangAn aspires to evolve into a world-class automotive brand. ChangAn Automobile stands out as a leader in smart low-carbon vehicle technology, boasting an international design team of over 915 experts from 31 countries, alongside various brands such as CHANG-AN, DEEPAL, and AVATR, along with joint ventures like ChangAn Ford. Their product offerings range from passenger cars, pickups, to light commercial vehicles.

Through technological innovations and industrial upgrades, ChangAn is on a mission to innovate in sustainable vehicle manufacturing, moving ever closer to becoming a globally recognized automotive brand.
