PosiGen Calls for Legislative Action on Energy Tax Credits
In a crucial moment as Congress deliberates over amendments to federal energy tax credits, PosiGen’s leadership has issued a strong plea to lawmakers. They are urging legislators to make adjustments to proposed changes that could jeopardize domestic energy production, lead to soaring energy costs, and put at risk nearly 300,000 jobs. The foundational goal of these tax credits, which support working-class households and facilitate their access to affordable solar energy, is in jeopardy.
Tom Neyhart, the founder of PosiGen, emphasized, "We have empowered thousands of working families through our rooftop solar leasing options, which do not impose strict credit requirements or high upfront costs. Abruptly eliminating these energy incentives as outlined in the House bill would not only harm businesses but also adversely affect the households that count on them the most."
PosiGen has made significant strides since its inception, servicing over 40,000 homeowners across 15 states. This includes areas such as Louisiana, Mississippi, West Virginia, Maine, and Pennsylvania—regions often burdened with high energy costs. At a time when the nation’s energy demands are on the rise, the necessity for diverse energy sources, including solar power, has never been more critical to prevent blackouts and mitigate soaring energy expenses.
Peter Shaper, PosiGen’s CEO, highlighted the wide-ranging impact of these tax credits, stating, "This initiative is fundamentally about maintaining energy independence and affordability, rather than aligning with political agendas. These credits have catalyzed a revival in American energy manufacturing, generating hundreds of thousands of job opportunities and assisting millions with their utility expenses. An abrupt termination would undermine years of progress."
The Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA) recently reported that the solar sector in the United States supports over 263,000 jobs, with rooftop solar accounting for more than 100,000 of these positions. Alongside job security, the potential loss of over 300 manufacturing facilities and approximately $300 billion in investments looms large. The withdrawal of these tax incentives could exacerbate inflation, leading to an estimated $51 billion increase in energy expenses for American households and businesses alike.
Kyle Wallace, PosiGen's Vice President of Policy and Chair of SEIA's Residential Solar Storage Division, stressed, "The popularity of solar power is immense across the country, providing families with a significant means of controlling their energy costs and enhancing resilience against outages. It is vital that Congress does not make the mistake of unwinding the progress made in clean energy, as doing so could disrupt our economy and reverse manufacturing gains."
A Call to Action
PosiGen encourages homeowners, advocates, and supporters of clean energy to engage with their congressional representatives. They stress the importance of advocating for the protection of energy tax credits to sustain American jobs, bolster manufacturing, and ensure affordable energy solutions.
