Long Beach City College Partners with Dreamscape Learn to Transform Immersive Student Learning Experience
In an exciting advancement for education, Long Beach City College (LBCC) has announced a groundbreaking partnership with Dreamscape Learn, aimed at enhancing educational experiences through immersive learning technologies. This collaboration is set to reshape how students engage with complex subject matter, utilizing cinematic storytelling to captivate and encourage active participation.
The initiative will officially kick off in Spring 2026, with LBCC introducing two state-of-the-art virtual reality facilities. These will include a 31-user immersive classroom pod and a free-roam pod, creating dynamic environments that transport students into virtual realms. Here, learners can embark on scientific missions, allowing them to collaborate, think critically, and deepen their comprehension of core subjects in entirely novel ways.
Dr. Mike Muñoz, president and superintendent of LBCC, expressed the institution's commitment to leveraging technology for student success: “We are dedicated to harnessing technology to not only elevate learning but also to enhance student engagement and accessibility.” This sentiment reflects LBCC’s broader goal to become a leader in innovative educational practices, making learning more accessible, interactive, and impactful for all students.
Josh Reibel, CEO of Dreamscape Learn, emphasized the transformative power of this initiative, stating, “When students step into these experiences, they’re not just learning—they’re discovering, solving, and engaging in ways previously thought impossible.” This investment in immersive technology marks a significant shift in educational paradigms, aiming to better equip students for the demands of the future.
Dreamscape Learn began its journey in collaboration with Arizona State University (ASU) in 2022, launching their immersive 'Biology in the Alien Zoo' course. Utilizing VR technology, the course has reached over 28,000 ASU students, demonstrating remarkable success. Research indicated that students who engaged with this innovative approach were nearly twice as likely to achieve top grades. This success prompted ASU to adopt Dreamscape's platform for all its introductory biology labs, highlighting the effectiveness of immersive learning.
The merging of entertainment industry techniques with pedagogical expertise positions Dreamscape Learn as a leader in redefining education in the 21st century. With an aim to close the student learning gap, this collaboration sets the stage for an engaging and fruitful educational experience for LBCC students and beyond.
For over 25,000 students enrolled each semester, LBCC stands as an educational pillar in Long Beach and surrounding areas, including Lakewood, Signal Hill, and Avalon. By emphasizing equitable learning and achievement, the college is committed to delivering high-quality educational programs tailored to its diverse community.
As LBCC prepares to launch this revolutionary initiative, the educational landscape is on the brink of a transformation that prioritizes immersive and interactive learning, thereby reshaping how future generations will engage with knowledge.
