Phoenix Children's Names Dr. Joshua D. Koch as Senior Vice President

Phoenix Children's Hospital is pleased to announce the appointment of Dr. Joshua D. Koch as Senior Vice President, a role that uniquely positions him to lead the organization’s hospital-based clinical services. This newly created executive position aims to strengthen coordination among different departments, ensuring children receive holistic and comprehensive care.

Dr. Koch will report directly to John R. Nickens IV, the President and CEO of Phoenix Children's. With his extensive background, Dr. Koch is tasked with overseeing essential departments, including Critical Care, Neonatology, Fetal Care, and Emergency Medicine, to name a few. His leadership is expected to enhance efforts across the health system, focusing on the well-being of pediatric patients.

John R. Nickens expressed confidence in Dr. Koch's capabilities: “Dr. Koch is precisely the leader we need to steer this next chapter in our hospital-based services. He embodies our commitment to developing strong physician leadership and ensuring our teams have adequate support.”

A Proven Leader

Before this new role, Dr. Koch was already a pivotal figure at Phoenix Children's, co-directing the Center for Heart Care and leading the divisions of both Cardiac Critical Care and Pediatric Critical Care Medicine. His leadership roles within the medical community, including chairing the governing council and serving as vice president of the medical staff, highlight the respect he commands among his peers.

Throughout his distinguished career, Dr. Koch has established nationally recognized programs and expanded multidisciplinary care teams that integrate various specialties to improve patient outcomes. His academic prowess and research initiatives have primarily focused on crucial areas, such as neurologic outcomes and patient safety, garnering publication in highly regarded medical journals.

“I believe the best decisions in pediatric healthcare prioritize the needs of children,” Dr. Koch stated. A Commitment to Excellence

Dr. Koch's academic background is impressive; he obtained his medical degree from the University of Kansas. After completing his pediatric residency and a fellowship in pediatric critical care medicine at the University of Texas Southwestern Medical Center, where he also served as chief resident and chief fellow, he earned board certifications in pediatrics and pediatric critical care medicine. He retains academic appointments at various prestigious institutions, including Mayo Clinic College of Medicine and Science and the University of Arizona College of Medicine.
