Pioneering Energy Storage: NC Tsuruoka Yudagawa Storage Facility
Nippon Chikudenchi Co., Ltd., headquartered in Chiyoda, Tokyo, has announced the commencement of power acceptance at their newly constructed NC Tsuruoka Yudagawa Storage Facility located in Tsuruoka, Yamagata Prefecture. The facility began operations on July 7, 2026, and is set to significantly enhance both local energy management and disaster preparedness.
Facility Overview
The NC Tsuruoka Yudagawa Storage Facility operates with a rated output of 1,999 kW and a storage capacity of 8,146 kWh. It employs a cutting-edge battery system manufactured by CATL and a power conditioning system (PCS) by TMEIC. This advanced setup not only ensures high reliability and control performance but also actively supports the balancing of electrical power supply and demand across various markets, such as the Japan Electric Power Exchange (JEPX), supply adjustment markets, and capacity markets.
Addressing Power Supply Challenges
As the adoption of renewable energy systems increases, maintaining a stable electricity supply is becoming paramount. Energy storage systems like the one at NC Tsuruoka are essential for absorbing fluctuations in power output, which can be particularly high during times of increased generation from renewable sources. The design and implementation of this project were executed with careful consideration for environmental and safety standards by Y-Just Co., Ltd., the construction company responsible for the project.
Enhancing Disaster Resilience
In addition to its role in energy management, the facility is positioned as a disaster response hub for the local community. In times of emergencies, it is equipped to support the electricity supply, enhancing overall community resilience against potential natural disasters. This dual function emphasizes the importance of integrating renewable energy solutions with local emergency response strategies.
Looking Ahead
Nippon Chikudenchi is committed to advancing grid-scale energy storage projects throughout Japan. The company aims to strengthen collaborations with local communities, municipalities, and businesses to contribute to a carbon-neutral society while improving disaster response capabilities. Their forward-thinking approach is aligned with national goals for sustainable energy development and community safety.
As the facility marks a critical milestone in regionally distributed energy infrastructure, it sets a precedent for future projects. By harnessing innovative technologies and nurturing community relationships, Nippon Chikudenchi seeks to lead the way towards sustainable energy solutions.
