CDTL Showcases Advanced E-Drive and EMB Technologies at IAA Transportation 2026

During the IAA Transportation 2026, held in Hanover, Germany, CDTL showcased its latest advancements in commercial vehicle technologies at Hall 21, Stand D37. The highlight of the presentation included their distributed electric drive axles designed specifically for heavy vehicles and the innovative electromechanical braking system known as EMB. These technologies aim to enhance the efficiency and safety of modern transportation systems.

One of the standout products, the EA5000NP electric drive axle, is particularly significant. Equipped with two oil-cooled motors, this axle features a two-speed transmission and independent wheel drive systems, which significantly improve traction control and torque management for each wheel. This design makes use of an electronic differential instead of a traditional mechanical setup, allowing for more precise maneuverability. The EA5000NP operates at a configuration voltage of 800 V, delivering a nominal power output of 660 kW with an impressive peak of 900 kW. Notably, this technology has already been deployed across over 3,000 vehicles globally.

For more demanding applications, CDTL introduced the EA4800N multi-speed electric drive axle. Capable of generating approximately 48,000 N·m of maximum wheel torque per axle, this system is optimized for heavy-duty usage and is available in a 6×4 configuration featuring two powered axles. These innovations are set to support the increasing demand for powerful and efficient electric vehicles in the heavy-duty sector.

Furthermore, the company showcased the EA2100N electric portal axle, which is already well established in European markets, including France, Austria, and Belgium. This technology has been deployed successfully for various commercial operations and demonstrates great reliability.

In the realm of public transport, the EA1100K distributed drive system represents a breakthrough in modern bus design. Integrating propulsion, steering, and independent suspension, this system enables four-wheel steering, bi-directional operation, and a completely low-floor architecture. Already operational in countries like China, Malaysia, and Turkey, this system is poised to redefine urban commuting.

Another key focus was on the EMB braking system, which has begun to see adoption in limited series production vehicles. This technology provides an impressive weight reduction of over 100 kg, reduces braking distances by around 10%, and can drop energy consumption of the braking system by as much as 85.4%. These enhancements are critical for vehicle performance, energy efficiency, and overall operational costs, making this system a game changer for manufacturers seeking both sustainability and efficacy.

The success of CDTL’s showcase drew interest from various stakeholders throughout the global commercial vehicle supply chain, including notable automakers. Numerous industry players visited the CDTL booth and engaged in technical discussions with their team, reflecting a strong recognition of the trajectory towards electric and autonomous vehicles in the sector.

As the market trends ramify towards electrification, the integration of high-efficiency electric propulsion systems, innovative 'brake-by-wire' braking technologies, and fundamental actuation capabilities are becoming increasingly important for commercial vehicles.
