Genesis House and The Gotham Foster Emerging Filmmakers with New Shorts Fellowship Initiative

Genesis House x The Gotham Shorts Fellowship

In an exciting collaboration, Genesis House and The Gotham Film & Media Institute have come together to introduce the Genesis House x The Gotham Shorts Fellowship, designed to support emerging filmmakers based in New York City. This initiative, now in its second year, is focused on providing crucial resources for those in the final stages of producing narrative short films.

Supporting Independent Filmmakers

Emerging filmmakers face numerous challenges, particularly during the concluding phase of their projects. The fellowship aims to alleviate some of these pressures by offering three selected filmmakers a grant of $10,000 each. This financial support is intended for the finishing funds necessary to finalize their short films, which will be produced in and around New York City.

In addition to financial support, filmmakers will benefit from specialized mentorship sessions led by industry professionals. This invaluable guidance is designed to enhance their artistic vision and help navigate the intricate landscape of film distribution and production. The program culminates in an exclusive screening event during the highly anticipated 2026 Gotham Week, showcasing the completed films to an audience of influential industry figures.

Program Details

The fellowship offers a holistic approach to nurturing talent:
  • - Financial Grant: Each filmmaker receives $10,000, providing essential funds to assist in the completion of their film.
  • - Mentorship Opportunities: Participants will engage in specialized sessions with seasoned professionals, ensuring they receive targeted advice and networking opportunities.
  • - Exclusive Screenings: Films will be showcased at a special industry screening event, accompanied by a panel discussion focused on the filmmakers’ journeys and experiences.
  • - Networking Dinners: Filmmakers will have two in-person dinners with industry leaders, enabling them to create meaningful connections within the film community.
