Novelis and Infinitum Reinforce Their Commitment to Aluminium Recycling in Norway
Novelis and Infinitum Strengthen Recycling Partnership
In a significant move towards sustainability, Novelis Inc., a global leader in aluminium solutions and recycling, has renewed its partnership with Infinitum, Norway’s leading recycling foundation. This long-term agreement is set to bolster the country's aluminum can recycling efforts and promote a circular economy.
Key Objectives of the Partnership
The main goal of this renewed collaboration is to ensure the effective recycling of all aluminium beverage cans used across Norway. Each year, a considerable amount of aluminium from Infinitum's collection facilities is sent to Novelis’ recycling plant located in Latchford, UK. Here, the raw material is transformed into new beverage cans, representing a successful example of a closed-loop recycling system.
Alexandre Gellert, Vice President of Metal Procurement at Novelis Europe, emphasized the importance of this partnership: “This collaboration showcases how circular systems can operate efficiently at scale. By securing a continuous flow of post-consumer aluminium, we can significantly increase recycled content while reducing CO2 emissions. This aligns perfectly with our Vision 3x30.”
Kjell Olav A. Maldum, CEO of Infinitum, underscored the benefits of their alliance: “Novelis plays a crucial role in ensuring a closed-loop process for beverage cans collected through our deposit system. Our collaboration guarantees transparency in volume, quality, and logistics, enabling us to maintain a cost-effective operation while delivering reliable low-carbon outcomes.”
Enhancements in Logistics and Environmental Impact
With this renewed agreement, both parties have the opportunity to refine logistical operations further, aiming to improve efficiency and reduce environmental impacts associated with recycling and transportation. As the partnership progresses, it is expected to create additional avenues for enhancing sustainability in Norway’s recycling systems.
The Vision for the Future
Novelis is committed to its Vision 3x30, which aims to elevate the average recycled content in its products to 75% by 2030 and substantially lower emissions intensity. The partnership with Infinitum is a strategic step in realizing these ambitious goals while leading the way in circular economy practices within the aluminium industry.
