Silverstein Properties Enhances Resident Experience with Apple Wallet Keys

In a groundbreaking initiative, Silverstein Properties has introduced a streamlined way for residents of its Silver Towers complex, located at 606 West 42nd Street in New York City, to access their apartments and amenities. By integrating resident keys into Apple Wallet, tenants can now unlock doors with just a tap of their iPhone or Apple Watch. This innovative approach not only simplifies access but also eliminates the need for traditional physical keys, enhancing security and convenience for residents.

Tal Kerret, President of Silverstein Properties, expressed enthusiasm for the new system, stating, "We’re excited to make it easy for our residents to use their resident key in Apple Wallet to get into their buildings, homes, and common areas." This change builds on a previous offering that allowed office tenants to use their employee badges for access to shared spaces within commercial properties.

The implementation of Apple Wallet resident keys indicates a significant shift in the U.S. real estate sector as developers aim to modernize the living and working experience for their tenants. Matt Kopel, co-CEO and President of SwiftConnect, emphasized the achievement by noting, "The Silver Towers project builds on SwiftConnect’s success in delivering seamless access via NFC wallets across the most iconic commercial real estate properties in New York and beyond."

The Technology Behind Seamless Access

To create this seamless access experience, SwiftConnect has partnered with Kastle and Allegion to implement a sophisticated access control system. Residents can add their keys to Apple Wallet via Silverstein's Inspire app after undergoing an initial setup process. Once added, unlocking doors is as simple as holding their device near the smart lock or door reader.

One of the standout features of this new system is Express Mode, which allows residents to unlock doors without even waking or unlocking their devices. Even if an iPhone's battery runs low, the device still grants access through the Power Reserve feature. This level of convenience is particularly valued in the fast-paced urban environment of New York City.

Privacy and security are paramount in this initiative. The data associated with the resident key is encrypted, protecting it against tampering and ensuring that Apple does not have visibility into when or where a resident uses their key. This offers peace of mind for tenants, who can trust that their digital access is secure.

Silverstein's rollout of resident keys in Apple Wallet is part of their broader Inspire program, which aims to transform how tenants interact with their living spaces. The Inspire program encompasses various aspects of customer experience, from hospitality services to wellness programming, and aims to leverage technology to improve residents' daily lives.

A Legacy of Innovation

Founded 67 years ago, Silverstein Properties has a long-standing reputation for pioneering technological advancements in the real estate sector. The firm has developed over 40 million square feet of residential, commercial, and hospitality space, including landmark projects like the World Trade Center buildings. Their commitment to innovative solutions continues to shape the landscape of urban living.

Mark Casey, Vice President of National Electronic Sales at Allegion, stated, "Resident Keys in Apple Wallet not only enhances security and convenience for residents but also exemplifies our commitment to driving the future of seamless access and smart apartment technology.” With growing urban populations and a demand for smarter living solutions, the integration of digital keys is paving the way for the future of residential services.

As cities evolve and lifestyles change, property owners are increasingly seeking ways to enhance their offerings. The introduction of digital access for tenants is an exciting step toward reimagining the residential experience, and Silverstein Properties is leading the charge in this transformation. Residents of Silver Towers now enjoy a modern, efficient, and secure way to access their homes, underscoring the importance of innovation in real estate.
