Cyclists Unite for a Cause: America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride
On June 1, 2025, the stunning scenery of Lake Tahoe will serve as the backdrop for a remarkable event known as America's Most Beautiful Bike Ride. This event is not just a biking experience; it is a vital initiative aimed at supporting blood cancer patients and enhancing their quality of life. The ride, organized by the Leukemia & Lymphoma Society (LLS), invites cyclists from all over the nation to rally together for a common goal: to create hope and significant change in the lives of those fighting blood cancers.
For nearly 30 years, America’s Most Beautiful Bike Ride has drawn nearly 30,000 riders, collectively raising more than $115 million to aid LLS’s mission. Participants can elect to traverse routes of 35, 72, or 100 miles, all while surrounded by breathtaking vistas of Lake Tahoe. Whether training solo or through LLS's popular Team In Training program, cyclists are motivated by the cause that beckons them to the pedals.
E. Anders Kolb, M.D., the President and CEO of LLS, will personally participate this year, leading his fundraising team called "PedAL to the MedAL." Dr. Kolb dedicates his ride to all individuals who have faced a blood cancer diagnosis. In a powerful statement, he emphasized, "Their grit and resilience powers me through every pedal stroke, hill, and winding road." After an injury interrupted his preparations for the ride last year, Dr. Kolb is determined to conquer the challenging 100-mile course and has set a personal fundraising goal of $100,000 for LLS.
As a beacon of inspiration for this year's event, Vera Padilla, a five-year-old leukemia survivor from Sacramento, California, has been chosen as the Honored Hero. Vera's courageous story of overcoming challenges resonates with participants, motivating them to take action and support the fight against blood cancer. The efforts put forth by riders and supporters help fund groundbreaking research, patient advocacy, and necessary resources to improve the lives of countless people affected by blood cancer.
Supporting this extraordinary event is Subaru of America, which serves as the event's premier sponsor. Together with WVU Cancer Institute and Tahoe Blue Event Center, the partnership aims to maximize the event's impact while engaging communities nationwide.
