Bedrock Ocean Exploration Appoints New CEO
Bedrock Ocean Exploration, a prominent player in automated subsea data and intelligence, has announced the appointment of
Matthew Tirman as its new Chief Executive Officer. This move is aimed at bolstering the company’s growth strategy in the rapidly expanding field of
autonomous maritime intelligence.
Matthew Tirman brings over 20 years of experience in high-tech business development, particularly in areas concerning
geospatial intelligence, data platforms, and global operations. Prior to this, he held a significant leadership role at Satellogic, a company known for its early commercial traction and substantial revenues. Under his guidance, Satellogic successfully launched advanced imaging products and established a significant presence in the defense and intelligence sectors worldwide.
In his new role, Tirman plans to steer Bedrock's strategic vision, market execution, and operational growth. The founder of Bedrock,
Charles Chiau, will continue to oversee technology efforts, concentrating on hardware and software advancements. Under Chiau's leadership, Bedrock is now poised to enter a new phase of innovation, bringing automated, AI-driven underwater intelligence to various enterprises and government clients across the globe.
"The opportunity ahead of us is massive," commented Tirman. "It feels reminiscent of the early days of the space economy, where access to high-quality data opened entirely new markets. Today, we’re supporting sustained operations in challenging offshore environments like the Gulf of Mexico and the North Sea, with exceptionally strong demand from both governmental and commercial sectors."
Bedrock is in the process of developing the largest private fleet of autonomous underwater vehicles, designed to serve the offshore energy, hydrographic mapping, and maritime security sectors. Notably, the company’s vertically integrated platform, equipped with multi-sensor underwater data capabilities, can be deployed without specialized infrastructure and operates effectively across numerous offshore environments, from small vessels to larger ships.
The
Mosaic platform by Bedrock facilitates seamless access to data, enhanced visualization, and collaboration, while
Trident supports remote fleet operations and mission coordination. These innovations enable quicker investigations, cost reductions, and more reliable data collection compared to traditional methods.
Charles Chiau expressed his enthusiasm about the future, stating, "Having previously served as both CEO and CTO during our early growth, I am excited to continue innovating and redefining how maritime intelligence is gathered and delivered. With Matt at the forefront of commercialization, I can focus on advancing our dual-use technical roadmap to ensure our clients have rapid access to critical insights."
As demand escalates in the energy, defense, and environmental monitoring sectors, Bedrock is poised to transform how underwater intelligence is approached, making it faster, safer, and more cost-effective.
