Grodan and F1 SeedTech's Groundbreaking Cannabis Trial Yields Remarkable Results

Grodan and F1 SeedTech Launch Revolutionary Cannabis Cultivation Trial

In a remarkable joint venture, Grodan, a leader in stone wool growing media, and F1 SeedTech, renowned for their F1 hybrid cannabis seeds, have concluded a groundbreaking cannabis cultivation trial at the prestigious CRIC Labs in Montreal. The trial, initiated in October 2023, aligns with earlier studies indicating encouraging improvements in yield and resource use.

Key Highlights from the Trial Program

The trial was comprehensive, encompassing five distinct studies aimed at maximizing cannabis production while maintaining high efficiency. Frank Janssen, Product Development Manager at Grodan, expressed the significance of their findings:

"Our results demonstrate that stone wool creates a superior growing environment than traditional organic media. We recorded impressive output rates and resource management."

Exceptional Yield and Resource Efficiency

One of the standout results of this trial was the astonishing production rate, which peaked at 9.4 kg/m² (about 1.93 lbs/ft²) of dried cannabis flower annually. This yield far surpasses typical benchmarks observed in organic media.

The focus on water and light usage revealed that cannabis growers can attain higher yields without incurring additional costs related to nutrients, water, or light when utilizing stone wool growing media. This finding alone positions stone wool as the ideal choice for maximizing output while minimizing input costs.

Consistency and Growth Uniformity

The trial also demonstrated a remarkable consistency in both plant growth and end-product quality. Janssen noted:
"Utilizing stone wool promotes higher generative growth, leading to improved flower-to-leaf ratios. This results in less waste and more predictable batch outcomes, enabling growers to operate more economically."

Future Directions and Implications

Both Grodan and F1 SeedTech remain committed to advancing cannabis cultivation techniques. Maikel de Bresser, COO of F1 SeedTech, emphasized the long-term potential of their partnership:
"Steering crop growth through root zone and climate management, combined with high-quality genetics, maximizes crop value and yield. The success of our trial can fundamentally alter practices for cannabis growers, leading to both operational savings and increased profit margins."

In a landscape marked by rapid innovation, Grodan and F1 SeedTech are poised to support licensed cannabis growers with the tools needed to thrive. In the upcoming year, they plan to conduct further research on the synergy between stone wool and F1 hybrid seeds, aiming to refine cultivation processes even more.
