The Craft of Kyoto Black Dyeing
Kyoto black dyeing is an age-old tradition wherein skilled artisans carefully dye each piece by hand. The dyeing process involves the use of water drawn from private wells known as ‘Yanagi-no-Mizu’, reputed for its purity and historical significance, as it was said to be used by the famous tea master Sen no Rikyū. This water contains iron, which not only enhances the dyeing quality but helps to retain the garments' color over time, ensuring they maintain their vibrant appearance even after prolonged use.
