A Capitol Fourth Celebrates 45 Years of American Tradition

This July 4th marks a significant milestone as A Capitol Fourth celebrates 45 glorious years as the nation's cherished Independence Day tradition, proudly broadcasting live from the West Lawn of the U.S. Capitol. The event will feature beloved actor and television host Alfonso Ribeiro returning to helm this special occasion. As America celebrates its 249th birthday, the evening promises a feast of musical and patriotic performances encompassing genres from pop and country to R&B and gospel, all under the esteemed direction of the National Symphony Orchestra, led by the acclaimed conductor Jack Everly.

The celebration culminates in a spectacular fireworks display – the largest of its kind in the USA – illuminating the iconic Washington D.C. skyline. The event, which airs live on PBS and streams on YouTube, is set for Friday, July 4, 2025, at 8:00 p.m. ET.

Alfonso Ribeiro expressed his excitement for the event, stating, "I'm honored to be back hosting the 45th anniversary of A Capitol Fourth. It's everything you want in an Independence Day celebration - great music and fantastic fireworks. For me, the best part is always the crowd – so many happy, patriotic faces, from grandparents to little kids. You don’t want to miss this party!"

The 2025 edition of A Capitol Fourth will showcase an all-star lineup of talented artists. Among the performers will be music legends like The Beach Boys and The Temptations, along with country music superstar Josh Turner and Grammy Award-winning artist Lauren Daigle. Joining them are notable names such as Trombone Shorty, known for his exceptional contributions to music, and the beloved gospel legend Yolanda Adams.

In a special nod to history, the concert will also celebrate the 250th anniversary of the U.S. Army, Navy, and Marine Corps. This homage to our armed forces includes a heartfelt Armed Forces Medley featuring service branch color teams, recognizing the 2.8 million men and women of our volunteer military who tirelessly defend our nation. The event aims to honor the Greatest Generation, paying tribute to those who served during World War II, many of whom will be present.

Moreover, a touching segment will express gratitude to first responders – from firefighters and police officers to EMTs and emergency health care professionals – for their dedication to ensuring our safety.
