Aignostics Unveils HETA Clinical: AI Solutions to Streamline Pathology Processes
In a groundbreaking announcement, Aignostics has introduced HETA Clinical, a cutting-edge suite of artificial intelligence (AI) products that aims to revolutionize the pathology workflow. This new offering spans the entire process from case intake and evaluation to molecular testing, marking a significant advancement in how pathologists handle cancer diagnostics.
Understanding HETA Clinical
The HETA Clinical family consists of four innovative products designed to enhance the efficiency and accuracy of pathology work. Each product targets specific aspects of the pathology workflow:
1.
HETA Quality Control: This tool assesses the quality of tissue slides before analysis, detecting various quality issues that may affect testing outcomes.
2.
HETA Tumor Detect: It annotates tumor regions and highlights cases likely to contain tumors during the scanning process, ensuring urgent cases are prioritized for review.
3.
HETA Mitosis: This tool automates mitotic counts, providing consistent and reproducible measurements.
4.
HETA Tumor Cellularity: It evaluates tumor cell content and suggests regions with adequate tumor presence for molecular testing.
Traditionally, pathologists have relied on visual assessments, which can vary significantly from one reader to another and are inherently time-consuming. With estimates indicating that 10-20% of molecular tests fail due to insufficient tumor presence, leading to unnecessary repeat biopsies and extended delays, the need for a more reliable solution has become evident. By implementing HETA Clinical, laboratories can significantly streamline case prioritization and improve turnaround times while ensuring ample tumor presence prior to molecular analyses.
Insights from Experts
Dr. Rosemarie Krupar, Vice President of Pathology at Aignostics, expressed enthusiasm about the launch, stating, "HETA Clinical provides labs with a more efficient path through their workflows. By quantifying critical parameters such as tumor content and mitotic counts, we bring AI's consistency to scale, allowing pathologists to focus their expertise on areas that truly require it."
The creation of HETA Clinical stems from the foundational HETA platform (formerly known as Atlas HE-TME), which is designed for spatial hematoxylin and eosin (HE) tissue analysis across multiple cancer types. A recent study highlighted the effectiveness of HETA, noting that its cell classification capabilities matched or surpassed those of expert pathologists.
This versatility means that HETA Clinical isn't limited to the most common cancer types; it extends its applications across various pathology subspecialties, thus broadening its potential impact.
In addition, Aignostics has recently revealed early access to
PathoSearch, a visual search engine for pathology cases. Over time, more products under the HETA Clinical umbrella will be launched, and they will be integrated with existing image management systems like Techcyte Fusion® AP.
Looking Ahead
Pathologists using the Fusion platform are encouraged to contact their Techcyte representatives to explore demo opportunities for HETA Clinical. The advancements made by Aignostics not only represent a significant step forward in pathology efficiency but also aim to facilitate better diagnostic outcomes for patients.
