Slovakia Makes History as the First Country to Confirm EXPO 2027 Participation in Belgrade

Slovakia's Historic Participation in EXPO 2027

Slovakia has taken a pioneering step by officially confirming its participation in the upcoming EXPO 2027 exhibition, set to take place in Belgrade, Serbia. On November 19, 2025, this confirmation was marked by the ceremonial signing of the participation agreement by key officials, including Matej Fekete, Director General of SLOVAKIA TRAVEL, and Lukáš Parízek, Commissioner General for EXPO 2027 Belgrade.

During this historic event, the signing of the contract was not just a formality, but a monumental milestone for Slovakia. Parízek expressed pride in being the first to officially sign the participation agreement, highlighting the significance of the EXPO as one of the largest events that a country can host. He emphasized the strong relationship Slovakia shares with Serbia and the importance of maximizing this opportunity to further strengthen ties and present Slovakia on an international platform.

At the signing ceremony, which took place at the Expo Playground at the Belgrade Fair, Parízek was accompanied by Serbia's Commissioner for EXPO and Minister for Internal and External Trade, Jagoda Lazarević, along with EXPO CEO Danilo Jerinić. Their joint participation emphasized the collaborative spirit of this occasion.

In conjunction with the signing, the Slovak delegation engaged in discussions with the Serbian Chamber of Commerce and Industry to explore ways to enhance bilateral relations further. These discussions included fruitful conversations with Marija Labović, Director General of Serbia's National Tourism Organization, as both parties seek to leverage the EXPO platform for showcasing their respective cultures and tourism opportunities.

Matej Fekete articulated the broader implications of Slovakia's involvement in EXPO 2027, noting it as a unique opportunity to highlight the nation's values like cultural diversity and sustainable tourism on a global stage. He stated, "Our participation demonstrates our commitment to enhancing Slovakia's reputation internationally while fostering solutions that benefit future generations. This occasion will also bolster our cooperation with Serbia in tourism."

The EXPO 2027 exhibition is scheduled to commence on May 15, 2027, running for a duration of three months. It is anticipated that over 120 countries will participate in this international specialized exhibition, which is projected to attract more than 4 million visitors. This significant turnout underscores the importance of the event not only for the host country but also for the participating nations seeking to promote their culture, innovations, and tourism.

SLOVAKIA TRAVEL, the national organization dedicated to promoting tourism in Slovakia, has a crucial role in supporting the participation at EXPO 2027. Its mission involves the development of tourism both domestically and internationally, making the participation at EXPO a vital aspect of advancing its objectives.

As anticipation builds for EXPO 2027, Slovakia's early commitment serves as a beacon of the country's ambition to engage with the world. With this proactive stance, Slovakia is poised to make a significant impact as it prepares not only to showcase its unique offerings but also to reinforce its longstanding relations with Serbia and the wider international community.
