TKC's New Initiative for ICT Education
In a significant push towards enhancing ICT skills among the younger generation, TKC (Tochigi, Utsunomiya), led by President Masaki Iizuka, has launched a series of programming learning videos tailored for elementary school students. This innovative project not only aims to make programming education accessible but also represents a unique team effort by recent hires who joined the company in April 2024.
About the Programming Learning Videos
The programming video series consists of five episodes, designed in a story format that engages young learners. The narrative follows a sheep named Ram, who looks forward to playing baseball on a Sunday, only to be disappointed by rain. To uplift his spirits, Professor Program suggests creating a baseball game using a beginner-friendly programming software called Scratch. Throughout the five episodes, students will learn the fundamentals of programming while having fun creating their own game.
Accessibility and Availability
Recognizing that many children are unable to attend programming schools due to restrictions like limited capacity or distance, TKC has decided to share these videos online. They can be accessed through TKC's official website as well as Shimotsuke Shimbun Digital, ensuring that the instructional content reaches as many young learners as possible.
New Employee Training and Creative Development
The development of these videos is part of a comprehensive training program for TKC's new employees in the System Development department. Following approximately nine months of foundational training in programming, these employees engage in collaborative idea generation and competition, leading to creative projects such as the programming videos.
Cloud Engineer Program
In a bid to support aspiring programmers from the local area, TKC offers a unique Cloud Engineer program. Employees who graduate from Tochigi prefecture’s high schools are encouraged to pursue their bachelor's degrees in collaboration with a local university while working at TKC. The company covers full tuition costs, fostering both professional and academic growth in the field of ICT.
Young Employees in Action
To complement the new programming videos, TKC has also released an interview video titled
Young Employees’ Challenge: Aiming to Become First-Class Engineers. This video showcases the experiences of employees ranging from their first year to their fifth, illustrating their training and involvement in system development. Viewers can witness the commitment of these young engineers, including those enrolled in the Cloud Engineer program who attend Shakushin University.
Supporting Future Generations
TKC is also a special sponsor of the “Tochigi ICT Innovation Challenge Kids Programming School,” an initiative spearheaded by Shimotsuke Shimbun to position Tochigi as a leading region in ICT education. This free program for elementary students takes place every summer, reinforcing the company's commitment to fostering future talent in the ICT field.
