British Airways Celebrates 90 Years of Connecting Nigeria and the UK with Special Fares

Celebrating 90 Years of Flight

British Airways, renowned for its long-standing connection between Nigeria and the United Kingdom, is commemorating a remarkable milestone: 90 years of service. This celebration marks not only the airline's enduring legacy but also the strengthening of ties between two vibrant cultures and economies.

To honor this special occasion, British Airways has introduced a limited-time promotion, offering customers discounts of up to 10% on selected fares. This translates to savings of up to USD 120 for travelers booking in World Traveller, the airline's long-haul economy class, with pricing starting from USD 990 for flights originating from Abuja and USD 1,090 from Lagos. For those flying in comfort, Club World fares start at USD 3,490 from Abuja and USD 3,690 from Lagos, with all fares valid for travel between Nigeria and London Heathrow.

Colm Lacy, Chief Commercial Officer at British Airways, expressed excitement about reaching this historical milestone. “For 90 years, we've had the privilege of connecting Nigeria and the UK, a route rich in history and cultural significance. Although the airline industry has transformed dramatically since our inaugural flight in 1936, our dedication to serving this region remains resolute,” he remarked. “We encourage our Nigerian customers to leverage these special fares and look forward to welcoming them on board.”

Currently, British Airways operates a network of daily flights from both Lagos and Abuja directly to London Heathrow, facilitating flawless travel for Nigerian passengers heading to the UK and broader international destinations, including Europe and North America. The Boeing 787 aircraft service from Lagos delivers exceptional comfort, while the Boeing 777 from Abuja maintains the same high standards, providing travelers with access to various class options, including the luxurious First cabin and the latest Club Suite business class experience.

Last year alone, British Airways successfully transported over 320,000 passengers between Nigeria and the UK, exhibiting the consistent demand for this important route. In recent weeks, searches on the airline’s website have surged over 12.6%, signaling heightened interest among travelers planning their journeys between these two regions.

In addition to unveiling these enticing promotions, British Airways hosted an exclusive celebratory event featuring long-standing partners and colleagues. A centerpiece of this event was a fashion show showcasing the evolution of uniforms that British Airways has donned over the past nine decades, illustrating the airline's rich heritage. Looking to the future, the airline also showcased its ambitious £7 billion investment plan aimed at enhancing operations and elevating the customer experience.

These special fares are available for booking starting April 22 and ending May 6, with travel windows set between September 22 to November 30, 2026, for flights from Nigeria to London, and September 23 to December 1, 2026, for return journeys.
