Building AI Fluency and Career Readiness
As Geotab concludes another cohort of internships, the impact of its student talent program is coming to the forefront. This program equips students with invaluable experience in applying enterprise-level artificial intelligence tools, telematics, and data analytics to address real-world business challenges.
Interns in this program engage directly with full-time employees, ensuring that their training goes beyond simple tasks. Geotab’s focus is on responsible AI integration, empowering interns to critically assess data, implement human oversight, and determine the optimal conditions for deploying automated tools that can enhance business efficiency.
Klaus Boeckers, Geotab’s Chief People Officer, emphasizes the goal of the internship program: "We aim to provide interns with direct experience using cutting-edge technology to solve real business problems. By embedding platforms like GIA (Geotab Internal AI Assistant) into daily workflows, we help students cultivate practical problem-solving skills that will serve them well in their educational pursuits and tech-focused careers."
One of the standout components of this internship experience is the Intern Innovation Challenge, where interns collaborate in cross-functional teams. Under the guidance of mentors from various departments, they identify inefficiencies within operational processes and propose custom AI workflows. These initiatives are subsequently reviewed and evaluated by Geotab's leadership team, allowing interns to gain deeper insights into how technology can complement and enhance human expertise in business.
The Intern Innovation Challenge has proven to be a fertile ground for innovation. Students utilize their fresh perspectives to devise practical solutions that can positively affect the organization. Many interns' proposals have led to the creation of new data dashboards, the implementation of a dedicated parts and inventory management system, and the development of automated workflows that streamline daily operations.
Rohan Rajanwal, one of the 2026 winners of the Intern Innovation Challenge, shared his experience: "Participating in the Intern Innovation Challenge pushed me to be as creative as possible while building a high-impact, functional solution. It also showed me how quickly I could build and test ideas by leveraging AI tools such as GIA, which saves a significant amount of time when incorporating complex ideas, like our AI photo analyzer for loose/unlabeled parts. Fortunately, receiving the right guidance from team leaders helped us identify real gaps that we could fill, validating our ideas and making us truly feel like we had made an impact with what we built."
Over the past five years, Geotab has welcomed more than 1,000 interns, many of whom are now pursuing successful careers, with several obtaining full-time positions at the company after graduation. The internship program stands as a critical talent development avenue, helping to mold emerging professionals while simultaneously benefiting the organization itself.
