Shizuoka's Fuji City Partners with Market Enterprise for Environmental Reuse Initiative

A Sustainable Collaboration: Fuji City and Market Enterprise



On June 5, 2025, Shizuoka’s Fuji City, led by Mayor Yoshimasa Konagai, will launch a partnership with Market Enterprise, based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo, to tackle local environmental issues through a new reuse initiative. This initiative aims to build a framework for reusing unwanted items instead of discarding them, contributing to waste reduction and the formation of a circular economy in Fuji City.

Background: Addressing Local Waste Management Challenges



Fuji City has long engaged in initiatives enhancing reuse, particularly focusing on repairing and reviving furniture brought in from households. Despite these efforts, many items that remain reusable are still discarded, putting pressure on waste disposal costs. This pressing issue prompted city officials to explore new reuse strategies that would effectively inform and engage residents.

Simultaneously, Market Enterprise has been active in developing internet-based reuse solutions, driven by its vision to be “the optimal trading company for realizing a sustainable society.” The company has participated in various initiatives to promote sustainable development goals (SDGs), such as joining public-private partnerships for regional revitalization and acting as a member of the
