Experience Japan's Cultural Treasures Anew at Oita's Premium Reproduction Exhibition

Exhibition Overview: Reborn National Treasures

Canon, in collaboration with the Kyoto Cultural Association, is set to present an extraordinary exhibition titled "Reborn National Treasures: High-Definition Reproductions Bringing the Dream of Beauty to Life" from July 17 to September 23, 2026, at the Oita City Museum of Art. This exhibit features stunning high-definition reproductions of 28 national and important cultural treasures, demonstrating Canon's advanced imaging technology fused with the craftsmanship of Kyoto's traditional arts.

Significance of the Exhibition

Japan’s invaluable cultural heritage often sees limited public exposure due to preservation concerns or historical circumstances that have led some works overseas. The Tsuzuri Project addresses this issue by recreating these masterpieces using state-of-the-art imaging techniques to create highly detailed replicas. This not only safeguards the originals but also provides greater accessibility and appreciation to the public.

The exhibition will showcase renowned works by masters of Japanese art such as Sotatsu Tawaraya, Korin Ogata, and Hokusai Katsushika, inviting visitors to delve into the world of Japan's artistic legacy.

Unique Viewing Experience

In addition to displaying these replicas without glass cases—a rare opportunity for direct interaction—guests will enjoy projection mapping that enhances the visual narrative of the artworks presented. Family-friendly workshops and gallery talks led by prominent experts will also enhance the experience. Activities may include creating postcards inspired by the iconic "Wind God and Thunder God" motifs with gold leaf—a perfect mix of education and creativity.
