YMCA of Greater San Antonio and The DoSeum Celebrate IMAGINATION STATION
On September 23, 2025, the YMCA of Greater San Antonio, in partnership with The DoSeum and supported by Community First Health Plans, proudly inaugurated the IMAGINATION STATION, an innovative play environment aimed at nurturing creativity and wellness among families and children at the Mays Family YMCA at Potranco.
The ribbon-cutting ceremony was a much-anticipated event that brought together community leaders and supporters. Among those speaking at the event were notable figures such as Katie Ferrier, Vice President of Public Policy, Economic Development and Senior Policy Advisor at the San Antonio Chamber of Commerce; Louis Lopez, President and CEO of the YMCA of Greater San Antonio; and Meredith Doby, Officer of The DoSeum, who emphasized the significance of this new venture for the families of San Antonio.
"Our commitment to providing a nurturing space for the development of children is being realized with the opening of IMAGINATION STATION," said Louis Lopez in his speech. He highlighted that this project marks the start of their preparations to celebrate the YMCA's 150th anniversary in 2026. Lopez articulated the vision for IMAGINATION STATION as a place where creativity, movement, and imagination converge to promote children's growth and well-being.
The new facility features interactive zones designed to facilitate creative expression, active engagement, and exploration of wellness themes. Local youth and families significantly influenced the design, ensuring that the experiences at IMAGINATION STATION resonate meaningfully with its intended users. Each area invites families to engage in shared activities that promote physical activity and social connections, enhancing the community fabric of San Antonio.
Theresa Scepanski, President and CEO of Community First Health Plans, shared her enthusiasm for the project, commenting, "We are excited to support this initiative as it exemplifies what can be achieved when organizations unite with a common purpose. This installation is a special contribution to families across our city and will create lasting benefits for our community."
The event also featured several presentations recognizing contributions from community partners and local officials, allowing the audience a first look at the groundbreaking facilities. Nancy Reyna, Director of Community Outreach from the Office of District 6 Councilman Ric Galvan, highlighted the transformative potential of IMAGINATION STATION for local families, while Zach Bamba, Field Representative for Congressman Tony Gonzales, emphasized the importance of community friendship and collaboration fostered by such initiatives.
IMAGINATION STATION stands as a symbol of the YMCA of Greater San Antonio's long-standing commitment to promoting youth development and social responsibility within the community. The organization has served its community for nearly 150 years, continuously evolving to meet the needs of families and children.
