Tobu Top Tours Launches Food Waste Reduction Campaign in Fukuoka

Launch of 'Rosenbai!' Campaign in Fukuoka

Tobu Top Tours Inc., based in Sumida Ward, Tokyo, has taken an important step against food waste in Japan by initiating a new program called 'Rosenbai!' in Fukuoka. This campaign, which aims to curb the growing issue of food waste, comes as part of the 2023-2024 food waste reduction awareness project commissioned by the city of Fukuoka.

According to the Ministry of Agriculture, Forestry and Fisheries, Japan generates around 4.64 million tons of food waste annually. Of this amount, approximately 2.31 million tons come from businesses in the food sector alone. Food waste not only poses a serious environmental concern but also leads to significant economic losses, making it a pressing challenge that requires immediate attention.

In response to this alarming situation, Fukuoka City has launched the 'Fukuoka Eco Movement.' This initiative aims to collaborate with local restaurants, hotels, and retail stores to reduce food waste through various sustainable practices. The campaign encourages these establishments to sign up as 'Cooperating Stores,' participating actively in food waste reduction activities.

To further engage the community, Fukuoka City has introduced a digital stamp rally that runs from October 1 through January 31. The rally encourages residents to visit participating establishments, creating an interactive way for them to learn more about the importance of food waste reduction. In alignment with the food waste reduction month, the program aims to highlight the best practices while encouraging citizens to think creatively about minimizing food waste.

Additionally, during December 1 to December 14, local talent will be featured in awareness-raising videos projected on digital signage throughout the city, promoting initiatives of the movement and underscoring the importance of minimizing food waste within the community.

Tobu Top Tours is committed to working closely with the local community in combating social issues, including food waste. As part of its ongoing social design projects and community revitalization efforts, the company plans to implement various initiatives aimed at raising awareness and ensuring the longevity of the 'Rosenbai!' campaign.

In conclusion, the launch of this campaign is a significant step toward a sustainable future for Fukuoka, providing an opportunity for citizens and businesses alike to work together in reducing food waste and foster a more conscientious approach to food consumption. By participating in the 'Fukuoka Eco Movement,' everyone can contribute to a problem that affects us all, laying the groundwork for a greener and more sustainable city.
