Exciting Launch of ActiMethod Rokkomichi School
In September 2025, the ActiMethod school in Rokkomichi is set to open its doors, providing a revolutionary approach to English learning. Developed by i GO Co., the ActiMethod combines typing with English instruction, enabling children to boost their vocabulary and language skills effectively. As of April 2025, there are over 90 ActiMethod locations across Japan, and the rapid expansion continues with plans to establish more schools nationwide.
Changes in English Education
The landscape of English education in Japan has undergone significant changes. More than three years have passed since English was formalized as a subject in elementary schools. In the 2020 academic year, new teaching guidelines were introduced, which increased exposure to English for fifth and sixth graders to two classes a week, totaling 70 hours per year. This curriculum promotes a balanced development of the four key skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing.
The revised curriculum aligns closely with middle school standards, aiming to nurture the foundational abilities necessary for effective communication. As a result, the level of English fluency expected from elementary students has risen notably, with foreign language activities commencing as early as third grade.
Notably, middle school students now have an expanded vocabulary requirement of 1,600 to 1,800 words, a significant increase from the previous 1,200-word benchmark. Classes are moving towards an 'all English' format, and programming is also becoming a mandatory subject in elementary schools, underscoring a broader transformation in students' learning environments. Furthermore, the new university entrance exams will commence in January 2025, adhering to these updated educational guidelines.
The Power of ActiMethod in English Learning
The unique strength of ActiMethod lies in its ability to facilitate the rapid acquisition of vocabulary through typing. Unlike traditional writing methods, all English writing exercises are conducted via typing, allowing students to quickly learn and remember words. As students practice typing English words while hearing their pronunciation, they reinforce their spelling skills effectively and gain confidence in their language abilities.
Once familiarity with typing grows, students can increase their typing speed significantly—up to 5 to 10 times faster than traditional pencil-and-paper methods.
