Mia Brookes Dominates Women's Snowboard Slopestyle at FIS World Cup in Flachau

Mia Brookes Shines at FIS World Cup in Flachau

In a remarkable display of skill and determination, 19-year-old Mia Brookes of the United Kingdom emerged victorious at the FIS Snowboard World Cup held in Flachau, Austria, this past weekend. Competing against some of the world’s best freestyle snowboarders, Brookes not only clinched the top spot in the Women's Snowboard Slopestyle event but also showed her prowess in the Spring Battle Rail Jam and the Spring Battle Women's Snowboard Slopestyle Final.

A Weekend of Triumphs

The FIS World Cup, sanctioned by the International Ski and Snowboard Federation (FIS), took place from March 19 to 21, featuring the third of four events in the snowboard slopestyle discipline for the season. Brookes, hailing from Sandbach, was the top qualifier heading into the final, building upon her recent victory at the X Games Aspen 2026 in January.

The finals were particularly challenging due to tricky weather and poor visibility. However, Brookes thrived under pressure, executing an immaculate run that left competitors in awe. Her winning score of 73.25 points came from a flawless line featuring a variety of complex tricks: a frontside blunt stall on the wall ride, followed by a switch frontside 180 and a 50-50 to backside boardslide on the first rail. She also impressively combined a frontside lipslide 270, 50-50 frontside 360 melon, and back-to-back spins that culminated in a Cab 900 tailgrab on the final jump.

Reflecting on her performance, Brookes expressed her excitement, stating, "I'm pretty stoked. The weather wasn't the best, but it was really fun." This significant achievement places her fifth in the Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle season rankings with 100 points, highlighting her rapid rise in the sport.

Spring Battle Success

Prior to the World Cup event, from March 14 to 18, the iconic Spring Battle competition at Absolut Park showcased the latest in snowboarding, featuring a generous prize purse of $80,000. Riders competed to capture their best slopestyle run and rail tricks, which were then evaluated by an official jury. Brookes demonstrated extraordinary skill throughout, winning the Rail Jam with an eye-catching backside boardslide pretzel out on the double-kink rail. Additionally, she nabbed first place in the Women's Slopestyle event, which included standout moves like a backside 1260 and a Cab 1080 in her jump sequence.

Besides Brookes, 16-year-old Lily Dhawornvej from Frisco, Colorado, also performed admirably, finishing in third place in the Women's Snowboard Slopestyle World Cup. Dhawornvej executed an impressive run with tricks including an alley-oop backside 180 and a frontside boardslide, scoring 66.61 points, which facilitates her ranking first in the Women’s Snowboard Slopestyle season standings with 169 points. She continues to captivate audiences with her recent Olympic debut and her win at the FIS Junior World Championships in February.

Men's Category Highlights

The Men's Snowboard Slopestyle event also boasted fierce competition. 24-year-old Judd Henkes from La Jolla, California, secured second place, showcasing his technical mastery despite challenging conditions. His second run included a series of impressive moves leading to a score of 76.91 points. Furthermore, Henkes previously claimed victory at the Spring Battle Men’s Snowboard Slopestyle event, affirming his position as a top contender this season.

Equally noteworthy was 19-year-old Rocco Jamieson from New Zealand, who claimed the second spot in the Spring Battle Men’s event, solidifying a robust weekend for Monster Energy’s team.

Looking Ahead

This successful outing sets the stage for an exciting conclusion to the Snowboard Slopestyle World Cup season, with the final competition scheduled for March 26-29 in Silvaplana, Switzerland. As fans eagerly anticipate more thrilling performances, the spotlight will remain on the talented athletes representing Monster Energy.
