An Exciting Opportunity in Forest Environmental Education
Launching in May 2026, the Forest Environmental Education Instructor Course in Ome City is designed to inspire and train new leaders who are passionate about the environment. After the successful completion of the first cohort last year, the program, organized collaboratively by Ome and Tachikawa cities along with the Ome Children's Future and Forest Initiative Department, is gearing up for its second batch of participants.
Program Overview
The course comprises 10 sessions spanning from May 2026 to February 2027, held every third Saturday. Participants will engage in hands-on learning experiences throughout the lush outdoor setting of the Ome Hills. This comprehensive program is aimed at individuals aged 18 and older who reside, work, or study in Ome or Tachikawa. The enrollment fee is set at 8,800 yen, with a maximum of 10 participants accepted on a first-come, first-served basis.
During the first iteration of this course, the inaugural cohort of Ome Environment Literacy Facilitators, or Ome ELF, flourished. They have actively participated in community events, including the popular Kids Marche held at the Tachikawa LUMINE rooftop in March and upcoming workshops aimed at elementary school students and preschoolers scheduled for June.
Interestingly, a family-friendly forest event is also planned for October in Ome City, further enhancing community engagement with nature.
The Importance of Environmental Education
With environmental degradation being a pressing global issue, the significance of forests is coming to the forefront. This program focuses on much more than just preserving forests; it addresses the protection of water resources, oceans, and local ecosystems that house a diversity of flora and fauna. This vital education experience emphasizes the interconnectedness of humans and nature, reminding participants that we are an integral part of the Earth's ecosystem.
The goal of Ome ELF is to raise awareness about the importance of conservation and environmental stewardship among a broader audience. Additionally, students may also achieve certification as Project WILD Educators during their time in the course, adding value to their learning journey.
How to Apply
