Former Jack Daniel's President Joins Uncle Nearest Board of Directors, Signaling Growth

Uncle Nearest Welcomes Mark McCallum to Board of Directors

In a significant strategic move, Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey has appointed Mark McCallum, the former President of Jack Daniel's, to its board of directors as an independent member. This transition is expected to bolster the company's ambition to expand its brand and product range while commemorating the legacy of Nearest Green, an influential figure in the world of whiskey.

Uncle Nearest Premium Whiskey, recognized as the most-awarded Bourbon and Tennessee Whiskey over the past six years, aims to pioneer new product introductions, reflecting the vibrant and rich history associated with its roots. Fawn Weaver, co-founder and CEO of Uncle Nearest, expressed her enthusiasm about McCallum’s addition, referring to him as pivotal in transforming Jack Daniel's into a globally recognized spirit brand.

The relationship between Weaver and McCallum traces back to a time when she shared her extensive research concerning Nearest Green's contributions to whiskey making. “Mark was instrumental in ensuring that Nearest Green’s legacy was acknowledged in the annals of whiskey history,” Weaver noted, highlighting how their mutual respect for whiskey heritage has drawn them together in this new chapter for Uncle Nearest.

McCallum’s extensive background in the spirits industry began with his tenure at Brown-Forman, where he joined in 2003. He climbed the ranks to hold pivotal positions, including Chief Operating Officer and Chief Brands Officer. His leadership was crucial during the period that saw Brown-Forman’s market capitalization expand from $5.9 billion to an impressive $31.5 billion, with Jack Daniel's substantially contributing to this remarkable growth.

Before his role at Brown-Forman, McCallum gained valuable experience as the Chief Marketing Officer for Red Lobster, alongside two decades in consumer packaged goods, notably at Campbell Soup Company and Cadbury Schweppes. Currently, he serves as the Chairman of the Board at Caledonia Spirits and holds a board position with Grant Sidney, Inc.

Uncle Nearest's plans for the future are ambitious. The company is preparing to relaunch the favored Square One Organic Vodka while also unveiling a new cognac brand, building from the historic Domaine St. Martin chateau and vineyards they acquired in 2023. This move positions Uncle Nearest as the largest Grande Champagne vineyard owner in Cognac, France, indicating their commitment to growth and product diversity.

McCallum’s onboarding is anticipated to significantly impact the company's trajectory, as he brings over 40 years of industry knowledge and strategic acumen to the board. Keith Weaver, co-founder and president of Uncle Nearest, expressed confidence in their decision, noting that McCallum's belief in the potential of their brand has been instrumental in their ongoing journey.

The dedication to honoring Nearest Green's legacy continues to be at the forefront of Uncle Nearest's mission as they pave the way for product innovations that respect and recognize their heritage. With their products now available in all 50 states and extending to 26 countries, the brand is poised for continued growth in a competitive market.

As Uncle Nearest prepares for expansion, McCallum's expert guidance is expected to enhance the brand’s leadership in the industry. The combination of rich history and innovative future plans positions Uncle Nearest to emerge as a significant player in the spirits sector, honoring Nearest Green's contributions while appealing to modern consumers.
