Throughout the fellowship, teachers will undergo a year of coursework in innovative STEM teaching methodologies designed in collaboration with NASA Education, equipping them with modern techniques to inspire their students.

In addition to the coursework, the fellowship includes a two-week summer mentored research experience at Regeneron Pharmaceuticals’ cutting-edge laboratories. This tangible exposure to a biotech environment helps teachers gain insight into real-world applications of STEM, allowing them to bring authentic experiences back to their students. Upon completion of the program, fellows are awarded a graduate certificate in STEM Leadership from Teachers College, Columbia University.

As the demand for skilled professionals in STEM fields continues to grow, initiatives like the Regeneron STEM Teaching Fellowship become indispensable. Lawrence Perretto, the Executive Director of the STEM Leadership Center and a seasoned middle school science teacher, emphasizes the importance of bridging the gap between classroom education and the professional science world. "Most U.S. science teachers lack professional experience in the field and may be unaware of the skills required for students to succeed in STEM careers. The Regeneron Fellowship aims to address this gap by providing teachers with essential hands-on experiences that they can convey in their teaching," Perretto states.

Moreover, Dr. Felicia Moore Mensah, Program Coordinator at Teachers College, Columbia University, expresses enthusiasm about the initiative, stating that it brings together education leaders and teachers in a collaborative environment. This integration of theory and practice is crucial for empowering future generations with the knowledge and tools necessary to thrive in an increasingly competitive job market.

The STEM Teaching Fellowship reflects the commitment of Regeneron Pharmaceuticals to not only develop ground-breaking medical solutions but also to cultivate a robust future workforce. By investing in educators, Regeneron is helping to shape the next generation of innovators, thinkers, and problem-solvers who will one day lead the charge in stem fields.
