Hynes Charter School Wins Prestigious 2026 Dr. Robert Slavin Award in New Orleans
Hynes Charter School in Lakeview, New Orleans, has achieved national recognition with its selection as the 2026 Dr. Robert Slavin Success for All Award recipient. This prestigious accolade underscores the school's commitment to delivering exceptional educational outcomes. The award highlights the important elements of the Success for All (SFA) model: robust leadership, effective systems, and a focus on literacy growth over time. Hynes Charter School, founded in 1952, has a storied history of educational excellence and resilience. After its original building was destroyed by Hurricane Katrina in 2005, it re-established itself as a charter school in 2006. Since then, under the SFA framework initiated in 2003, the school has continually refined its instructional practices and strengthened its systems to enhance student learning. Julie Wible, CEO of the Success for All Foundation, expressed her admiration for Hynes, stating that their commitment to the model and the hard work of educators has produced remarkable outcomes, including the expansion of two additional schools within the network. CEO Michelle Douglas noted the crucial role that the Success for All model played in rebuilding not just the physical space after Katrina but also the trust and stability essential for a thriving educational environment. Even in the aftermath of such disruption, Hynes has seen consistent student growth, affirming the effectiveness of the SFA approach. The recognition highlights the broader success of the Hynes network, including Hynes-University of New Orleans (UNO) and Hynes-Parkview. The UNO campus, launched in 2019, serves grades K-6 and registered a notable 10-point increase on Louisiana’s School Performance Score in the 2024-25 school year. Similarly, Hynes-Parkview, which joined the network in 2021, realized a remarkable 39-point increase within four years. These achievements reflect the effectiveness of Hynes’ shared systems, which prioritize collective accountability and leadership. This award was presented at the 2026 Success for All Experienced Sites Conference in New Orleans, further solidifying Hynes' reputation as a model of educational excellence.
