Coastline College Integrates Regent Award for Enhanced Competency-Based Education Programs

Coastline College and Regent Award: A New Era in Education

Coastline College has recently taken a significant step forward in education by implementing the Regent Award, an innovative financial aid management solution designed to support its Competency-Based Education (CBE) programs. This initiative aims to provide students with the flexibility they need to pursue their education while navigating the complexities of financial assistance.

Meeting Complex Needs with a New Approach

Regent Education, a prominent player in SaaS-based financial management solutions, has partnered with Coastline College to implement this system. The college is committed to offering a direct assessment, subscription-model CBE program known as Pace+, which presents unique challenges when it comes to financial aid management. Nathaniel Harrison, the Interim Dean of Innovative Learning at Coastline, highlighted the initial hurdles they faced, noting that the CBE approach was unprecedented within the California Community College system. They continually questioned, "How do we make this work?"

After evaluating various solutions, it became evident that the Regent Award was uniquely positioned to provide the essential capabilities needed for the Pace+ program. This cloud-based solution automates various financial aid processes, catering to both standard and non-standard terms, which helps institutions not only grow enrollment but also streamline administrative efforts.

A Unique Collaboration Experience

Implementing this system was a complex project that required close collaboration between Coastline's financial aid, enrollment services, and IT departments. The flexibility of Regent Education's approach was pivotal, especially when deadlines needed adjustments during the rollout. Harrison emphasized the importance of coordination and how Regent's team adapted to meet Coastline's requirements.

Future Aspirations

Looking ahead, Coastline College envisions extending its CBE structure to additional academic programs, aligning with student demands for adaptable educational pathways. This commitment not only underscores their dedication to enhancing student experiences but also reflects the evolving landscape of higher education.

Jim Hermens, CEO of Regent Education, expressed his congratulations to Coastline on the successful launch of the Regent Award. He commended the college's unwavering focus on student-centered decision-making, despite the operational complexities involved in implementing such an innovative model.
