Exciting News: ActiMethod Kagoshima Arata School Opening
The ActiMethod Kagoshima Arata School is slated to open in October 2025, marking a significant expansion for the leading English-learning program developed by i GO. This innovative approach combines typing skills with English language learning, making it uniquely effective for students of all ages. As of April 2025, i GO has successfully opened over 90 ActiMethod schools across Japan and plans to continue expanding into more regions.
Background on English Education in Japan
In the past three years, English education in elementary schools has become more standardized in Japan. Starting from the 2020 academic year, new guidelines have been implemented for English language instruction in elementary and junior high schools, emphasizing the development of four key skills: listening, speaking, reading, and writing. By the time students reach grades five and six, they are expected to attend two English classes each week, totaling 70 hours of instruction per year. This curriculum is designed to ensure a smooth transition to junior high school English education and aims to foster foundational communication skills.
With these changes, the vocabulary that junior high school students are expected to learn has increased from 1,200 to about 1,600-1,800 words. Additionally, all classes are expected to be conducted in English to enhance immersion. Elementary school students are now also required to learn programming, reflecting a significant shift in the educational landscape. Starting in the 2024 academic year, university entrance exams will further align with the updated curriculum guidelines.
The ActiMethod Approach to English Learning
ActiMethod stands out with its focus on rapid vocabulary acquisition through typing. Unlike traditional English learning, all writing exercises in ActiMethod are performed via typing, allowing students to input words directly from a keyboard. This method not only boosts vocabulary comprehension but also helps in mastering proper pronunciation. As students become adept at typing, they are able to type five to ten times faster than if they were writing by hand.
As the Kagoshima Arata School prepares for its opening, a series of free trial sessions will be held to introduce parents and students to this innovative method. The trial sessions are scheduled for various dates throughout August and September, offering multiple time slots for convenience.
