On August 26, recognized as Women’s Equality Day, Convoy of Hope spotlighted the significant positive impact that opportunities can bring in the lives of women and girls. With a mission to uplift, the organization has positively impacted over 315,000 women and girls globally through its empowering initiatives. This day serves as a reminder of the tremendous change that targeted programs can create, not just for individuals, but for families and entire communities.

When women gain access to education and resources, they can alter not just their own lives but the trajectory of their families' futures. The Women’s Empowerment program by Convoy of Hope is designed specifically to give women the tools they need to achieve financial independence. For instance, the story of Mesay from Ethiopia showcases the life-altering effects of these empowerment programs. Prior to her involvement, Mesay was engaged in arduous laborious jobs like house cleaning and working in construction. The income she earned was barely enough to support her husband and two daughters. Through Convoy of Hope’s program, she accessed essential training and was provided with startup capital that didn't need to be repaid. Mesay launched her own chicken farm, which has transformed her family’s financial situation.

Today, she is reinvesting her profits to expand this business and has become part of a local women’s savings group, aiding further in securing her financial future. Most notably, her newfound success has made it possible for her to send both daughters to school, a luxury that was previously out of reach. Mesay’s inspiring words echo the sentiments of many women empowered through such initiatives: “The training gave me a new sense of hope and direction.”

Her aspirations now include expanding her chicken farm to include a restaurant and providing eggs and poultry to local supermarkets, with a longer-term goal of generating jobs for others in her community. In 2025 alone, over 78,000 female participants across 32 countries directly benefited from Convoy of Hope’s Women Empowerment programs.
