Lincoln Elementary Recognized for Excellence
In a noteworthy achievement, Lincoln Elementary School nestled in Newark, California, has made its mark by securing a position on the ERP (Educational Results Partnership) Honor Roll. This honor is a testament to the school’s commitment to academic excellence and student success, with only 21% of public schools in the region earning similar recognition. This accolade comes as part of the dedicated efforts of Sewa International through its ASPIRE program, which has made significant contributions to the educational landscape at Lincoln Elementary.
Gerson Sandoval, the Principal of Lincoln Elementary, expressed profound gratitude towards Sewa International for their unwavering support in reaching this remarkable milestone. "Thanks to your support, we have been able to give every child the chance to learn and grow where they are – we have achieved something truly special," he remarked, highlighting the importance of collaborative efforts in educational success.
The ASPIRE program, which stands for Achieving Student Progress, Instilling Resilience, and Excellence, has played a pivotal role in this achievement. Since its partnership began with Lincoln Elementary in 2023, ASPIRE has engaged teachers and students alike in innovative learning methods focused on reading, math, creative arts, and English. Additionally, the program promotes confidence and curiosity through enriching after-school activities designed to inspire students.
Photo evidence of young learners engaging in teamwork during after-school activities illustrates the program’s impact on building confidence and connection among students. Events like the ASPIRE Carnival further enhance the creative learning experience, making education a joyous endeavor. Students are immersed in word games and interactive challenges, which turn learning into a vibrant and hands-on process.
In a heartfelt letter to the ASPIRE team, Principal Sandoval invited the school community to recognize the dedication and efforts of the program's leaders—Program Director Sudha Prabhunandan and intervention specialists Victor Fisher and Renuka Jethmalani. "On behalf of our entire school community at Lincoln Elementary, I want to extend our heartfelt gratitude for your partnership and dedication," he stated, emphasizing the mutual goal of elevating every student’s potential.
The SAPIRE program has been transformative, significantly enhancing the academic landscape for more than 1,500 elementary students in Newark and Livermore while fostering resilience and support to those from low-income families. Volunteers provide crucial help through small-group coaching and individualized homework assistance, allowing students to thrive academically and emotionally.
"Every child deserves the chance to dream big and achieve their full potential — to read with confidence, to solve problems with curiosity, and to believe they can make a difference," said Srikanth Gundavarapu, President of Sewa International USA. This belief underscores the ethos of the ASPIRE initiative, which goes beyond just academic metrics to cultivate a holistic educational experience for students.
The program also embraces civic engagement, encouraging students to participate in initiatives such as gardening projects, creative arts, and community events. Highlights include the ASPIRE Carnival and spelling bee competitions, which guide students in learning valuable lessons in teamwork, leadership, and empathy.
Sewa International’s ASPIRE program has proven to be an invaluable part of enriching educational experiences for countless students. As the organization continues to invite volunteers, donors, and community members to support its mission, the vision remains clear: to expand the ASPIRE program’s reach to even more schools across the nation, ensuring that no child is left behind in their pursuit of excellence.
