Shanghai Electric Unveils Advanced Robotic Solutions with Embedded AI at WAIC 2026

Shanghai Electric's Showcase at WAIC 2026

At the 2026 World Artificial Intelligence Conference (WAIC), Shanghai Electric made a significant impact by presenting an impressive portfolio of robotics solutions powered by embedded artificial intelligence (AI). This presentation not only displayed the potential of modern robotics in manufacturing but also highlighted the company's commitment to advancing smart factory technologies.

Under the theme "AI for All Smart Squad, Shining Without Limits," Shanghai Electric emphasized its capabilities in the realm of embedded AI robotics. The company showcased essential components crucial for the functioning of these robots, along with native AI solutions for smart factories. The exhibition covered a wide range of fully automated systems, critical parts, industrial software, and the architecture of smart factories.

Wang Chunlei, the Deputy General Manager of Shanghai Electric's Robotics Division, stated, "The true value of embodied intelligence lies in understanding real manufacturing challenges. By combining the strength, precision, and stability of machines with human insight and judgment, we are creating a true paradigm of ‘machine-human collaboration through machines.’"

Key Industrial Scenarios

Shanghai Electric's robotics portfolio is tailored for five key industrial scenarios, which include:
1. Connector Installation: Automated systems dedicated to efficient connector placement.
2. Electric Operations: Robots capable of executing various electrical tasks with precision.
3. Flexible Sorting: Intelligent sorting solutions for materials in diverse settings.
4. Intelligent Assembly: Revolutionizing the assembly process with enhanced efficiency.
5. Pipe Processing: Advanced robots designed for fine manipulations in complex spaces.

The Innovative Robots

The showcase featured multiple innovative robots, each designed for specific tasks:
  • - SUYUAN: A humanoid robot with 41 degrees of freedom, suitable for inspections, loading and unloading tasks, and assembly. It boasts a multi-modal visual probing system allowing it to operate in complex environments efficiently.
  • - TUOYUAN: An industrial humanoid robot equipped with a hybrid control system. This robot excels in inserting connectors of various specifications and sorting materials, while also handling automotive parts with care.
  • - Mermaid: A bionic wheeled humanoid capable of autonomously identifying buttons, handles, and switches. This robot generates real-time technological processes to improve operational workflows.
  • - Pipe Edge Beveling Robot: Designed for tight spaces, it can accurately process edges within a millimeter of tolerance while providing real-time data transmission.

In addition to these robotic systems, Shanghai Electric presented key components such as the planetary roller screw, which offers over three times the load capacity compared to traditional ball screws, and the biomimetic DexHand, designed for diverse gripping and handling requirements.

Advancements in AI Agents

Shanghai Electric also launched 51 models of AI agents under the StarCloud Intelligent Manufacturing series. These agents integrate advanced algorithms in key areas such as R&D, production, and maintenance, particularly focusing on critical equipment processes like optimization and wind energy maintenance.

Equipped with intelligent decision-making capabilities, these agents facilitate line planning, quality checks, and preventive maintenance, thus transitioning manufacturing operations from experience-based to data-driven strategies.

Smart Factory Architecture

At the conference, Shanghai Electric introduced a report on native AI-based smart factories. This cutting-edge architecture promotes real-time optimization of production data within a closed loop, enabling factories to achieve self-awareness, autonomous decision-making, and self-implementation.

The native AI smart factory integrates technology process flows, industrial software, agents, and intelligent equipment to dismantle traditional hierarchies. By connecting isolated data storage horizontally, the structure features a three-tier framework – an AI brain as the “control center,” industrial agents and embodied robots as the “execution network,” and a digital twin as the “mirror.”

With profound industrial expertise and comprehensive solution capabilities, Shanghai Electric is committed to nurturing the integration of AI within industrial environments. By addressing the technological challenges associated with embedded intelligence in complex scenarios, the company aims to accelerate the large-scale deployment of AI-driven smart factories and deliver reproducible solutions across various manufacturing landscapes.

In conclusion, Shanghai Electric continues to pioneer advancements in robotics and smart factory technologies, setting new benchmarks for efficiency and innovation in the industrial sector.
