SANY's Expansion into Renewable Energy in Africa
SANY Group is making significant strides in green energy by embarking on a groundbreaking solar project in Zimbabwe. This initiative, which started in late June 2025, marks SANY’s first foray into solar energy within the African continent. The 10 MW photovoltaic power plant will not only enhance the capacity for clean energy but is also a crucial step in tackling the ongoing electricity shortages in the region.
A Revolutionary Approach to Solar Energy
SANY is employing its own high-efficiency photovoltaic modules in this project, complemented by advanced inverters and sturdy mounting structures designed to withstand local environmental conditions. The power plant is expected to generate approximately 18 million kWh annually once operational by the end of 2025. This output is set to significantly alleviate power shortages in Zimbabwe, thereby securing a reliable energy supply for local industries and improving the standard of living for its residents.
This solar facility is built under SANY's innovative
EP+F business model, which integrates engineering, procurement, and financing into a customized solution that meets the specific financial needs of clients. This model is especially significant in emerging markets, as it reduces the financial burden associated with the adoption of green technologies.
Future Collaborations and Ongoing Projects
SANY’s optimism regarding future partnerships in Africa is evident. The company aims to expand its collaboration to include microgrids, electric trucks, and infrastructure for charging electric vehicles. This project not only serves as a blueprint for future renewable energy collaborations but also highlights SANY's commitment to sustainability and the continuous improvement of energy conditions in Africa.
Moreover, this is not SANY’s first endeavor in Africa. In late 2024, the company connected its mining microgrid power project in Zambia to the grid after only four months of construction. That project, a combination of solar energy, storage, and diesel, is noteworthy for being the largest single solar energy initiative in Africa to date. Its first phase is capable of producing around 16 million kWh annually and has saved the client more than 20 million RMB in electricity costs, which translates to nearly 30% of their total production costs.
Following this achievement, SANY has signed on for three additional microgrid projects in Zambia, reinforcing its commitment towards sustainable energy transitions across the continent.
SANY's Commitment to Local Development
With 23 years of partnership with Africa, SANY has evolved from solely trading equipment to fostering a sustainable cooperative framework. Presently, SANY operates 15 subsidiaries and has established a presence in over 30 countries. The company employs over 50% local personnel in Africa, contributing to the creation of more than 5,000 job opportunities in the region.
Looking ahead, SANY plans to leverage its technological and management strengths to develop a robust local supply chain. This initiative is aimed at bolstering the green energy sector and supporting economic growth throughout Africa.
In conclusion, SANY's ambitious solar project in Zimbabwe signifies an important chapter in the company's ongoing efforts to expand its green energy footprint in Africa. As they continue to invest in sustainable energy solutions, SANY is not only contributing to the energy needs of the region but also setting a standard for future renewable energy projects across the continent.
