CITGO Celebrates Outstanding Financial Performance in Second Quarter of 2026

CITGO's Impressive Q2 2026 Results

On August 13, 2026, CITGO Petroleum Corporation announced its robust financial and operational outcomes for the second quarter of 2026. The company reported a remarkable net income of $936 million, alongside an EBITDA of $1.38 billion and an Adjusted EBITDA of $1.39 billion, marking the second highest quarterly performance in its history. This strong financial performance comes at a time when U.S. refined product margins are positively influenced by global supply disruptions.

Carlos Jordá, President and CEO of CITGO, emphasized the company's commitment to both operational excellence and financial discipline. He stated, "CITGO delivered another quarter of strong operational and financial performance, led by our team's solid execution and the strength of our refining and commercial system." With strategic planning for the remainder of the year, CITGO is focusing on balancing immediate market opportunities with long-term investment priorities, reflecting a proactive approach in a fluctuating market.

An impressive part of CITGO's Q2 performance was its total refinery throughput, which reached 820,000 barrels per day (bpd), achieving an overall crude utilization rate of 97%. Despite minor setbacks due to turnaround activities and unplanned outages, the company managed to excel operationally. One of the highlights included the Lake Charles refinery setting monthly crude rate and distillate production records in April, alongside Lemont's successful completion of significant turnaround work in May.

CITGO's marketing sales volume was also noteworthy at 414,000 bpd, showcasing substantial branding efforts with a 28% year-over-year increase in gallons sold through their Club CITGO® loyalty program. Additionally, its Terminals and Pipelines business unit demonstrated strong operational performance, with the Sour Lake Pipeline achieving a new daily maximum pumping rate in May, contributing to the company’s overall efficiency.

Humanitarian Efforts

In response to the recent earthquakes that devastated parts of Venezuela, Jordá expressed solidarity with those affected. CITGO revealed plans to donate $10 million to the Simón Bolívar Foundation, aimed at facilitating immediate aid and emergency supplies to impacted communities. The company also initiated an employee matching program to bolster relief efforts further, underlining its commitment to corporate social responsibility.

Forward Projections and Strategic Initiatives

Looking ahead, CITGO has projected approximately $5.8 billion in EBITDA for the full year of 2026, alongside an anticipated year-end cash balance of around $5.7 billion. The company plans to slightly reduce its capital expenditures from $985 million to $867 million, pushing back scheduled projects to ensure that its strategic capital program remains robust, particularly with projects like the Corpus Christi crude unit expansion and Lake Charles depentanizer aimed at enhancing refining efficiency and product yields.

CITGO’s operational metrics convey a keen focus on refining capabilities, with three major refineries in the U.S. having a combined crude oil refining capacity of approximately 829,000 bpd. Its distribution network, which is crucial for connecting refined products to market, includes 35 active terminals with a storage capacity of 18.2 million barrels and a vast number of retail outlets across the eastern United States.

Conclusion

CITGO continues to strengthen its market position through delivering outstanding financial results and maintaining an unwavering commitment to operational excellence amid challenging market conditions. With a disciplined approach to capital management and strategic planning, the company is well-equipped to navigate the complexities of the oil industry and capitalize on emerging opportunities.
