Enhancing Safety Education for Young Riders

Polaris, a leader in the powersports industry, has joined forces with Minnesota 4-H to expand youth ATV safety education with an innovative and interactive new program. Launched on CLOVER, the online learning platform of 4-H, this initiative aims to make learning about ATV safety both engaging and enjoyable for youth aged between 10 and 13.

An Engaging Digital Adventure

The newly introduced ATV Adventure Academy Trailblazers is designed to immerse young riders in a fun, trail-themed digital environment where they learn essential safety practices. This interactive experience incorporates animated scenarios, decision-making exercises, and a trail map that guides users through various levels, ensuring that lessons on responsible riding are exciting and memorable.

According to Rebecca Anderson, an ATV Safety Ambassador for Minnesota 4-H, the initiative was developed with input from youth who helped shape the content to be age-appropriate and engaging for their peers. She emphasizes the importance of teaching ATV safety as a foundational skill, highlighting that making the learning process enjoyable is crucial for retention. “When kids enjoy it, they actually remember it,” she said, pointing out that establishing good habits early is essential.

The Trailblazers program encourages youth to engage with critical safety concepts that include:

Korinne Caldwell, who serves as Polaris’s Employee Health and Safety Manager, stated, “Trailblazers is designed to meet youth riders at the beginning of their safety journey and help build their confidence through engaging, scenario-based learning.” By introducing foundational safety principles early, the program equips young riders with the necessary skills needed for responsible riding. Caldwell believes that understanding these skills will enhance their confidence, allowing them to enjoy outdoor adventures more safely.
