Vaulted Deep Secures $35 Million in Debt Financing to Expand Nationwide
In a significant advancement for waste management technology, Vaulted Deep has secured a substantial debt facility worth $35 million from Mediobanca, aimed at accelerating its nationwide expansion of subsurface infrastructure designed for organic waste disposal. This funding, orchestrated by industry leader CFP Energy, marks a crucial milestone as it is the largest publicly disclosed U.S. commercial debt deal in the realm of durable carbon removal, underpinned by long-term purchase agreements.
The financing underscores the increasing demand for innovative waste solutions as conventional disposal methods reach capacity. With the new funds, Vaulted Deep plans to invest in the development of multiple new waste disposal sites nationwide while simultaneously enhancing its technological infrastructure for site development, thus increasing operational efficiency.
Julia Reichelstein, CEO and Co-Founder of Vaulted Deep, highlighted the critical nature of this funding: “Waste operators across the country need new options as traditional disposal options become limited. This financing lets us take on more projects and invest in the tools that help us evaluate and develop new sites faster. This is a meaningful milestone for Vaulted as we move into the next phase of building infrastructure at a much larger scale.”
The facility’s structure is supported by Vaulted’s existing waste service agreements and its revenue from contracted carbon removal, including arrangements with notable clients via the Frontier initiative, backed by companies such as Stripe, Shopify, and Google. Vaulted Deep has impressively delivered over 20,000 tons of carbon removal to these Frontier buyers in the first half of 2026 alone, surpassing its total delivery within the entire year of 2025. This remarkable growth reflects the rising relevance of the company’s services as demand continues to soar.
Vaulted’s forward-thinking approach includes the deployment of its AI-Accelerated Site Development Platform. This integrated system combines proprietary technology and operational experience throughout various phases of site-oriented activities such as discovery, permitting, and injection operations. By harnessing geological, regulatory, and waste-supply data, the platform effectively narrows down potential site candidates and speeds up the permitting process through standardized templates and regulatory guidelines. The firm has also implemented advanced monitoring algorithms to maximize the safe disposal capacities of operational sites, thereby enhancing scalability and efficiency.
According to Frontier spokesperson Hannah Bebbington Valori, the demand for robust carbon removal solutions provided by companies like Vaulted will potentially revolutionize financing strategies in the waste management sector. She explains, “Frontier's theory of change is that robust demand for carbon removal, in the form of large, multi-year offtake agreements, gives companies the ability to raise the capital required to build and expand their businesses.”
Tyler Manchester, who leads Voluntary Carbon initiatives at CFP Energy, emphasized the importance of connecting institutional capital with innovative climate technologies. He noted, “By facilitating these types of transactions, we connect institutional capital with innovative climate technologies, helping accelerate the deployment of high-integrity carbon removal solutions.” This reflects a growing confidence among investors, spurred by an increasing corporate demand for sustainable and permanent ways to meet net-zero commitments and long-term climate strategies.
The recent financing adds a new stream of growth capital to the substantial equity of $48 million already raised by Vaulted, alongside its recent $8 million award from the XPRIZE Carbon Removal competition. The aggregated capital will enable Vaulted to push forward with numerous infrastructure projects as it expands beyond its current operations.
Moreover, Artio, a prominent carbon insurance firm, has stepped in to de-risk the investment, playing a vital role in unlocking additional capital for high-quality carbon-related projects.
