Expected electricity charges for the fiscal year 2023 have been estimated at approximately 116 million yen, compared to a standard estimated charge of 170 million yen. This represents a reduction of about 55 million yen, or approximately 32.20% in electricity expenditures. Additionally, the adoption of renewable energy is projected to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by around 1,892 tons of CO2, which was calculated based on Tokyo Electric Power Company’s standard emissions factor.

The Tama City government, particularly the Environmental Department, faced challenges due to the rising costs of electricity and the increasingly complex pricing structures. However, the implementation of the reverse auction facilitated a simpler procurement process, allowing for substantial engagement from retail electricity providers. In total, seven companies placed bids through 23 different entries, showcasing the efficacy of the approach in achieving both renewable energy transition and cost savings.

While renewable energy sources typically come with higher costs when compared to conventional electricity, the flexibility offered by the Eneoku reverse auction allows businesses to adapt effectively. By observing competitors' bids, providers can re-enter the auction, fostering a more favorable pricing environment for renewable energy procurement.
