Blue Cross Blue Shield Employees Volunteer for Local Non-Profits on 15th Annual Service Day

On September 25, 2025, nearly 3,000 employees from Blue Cross Blue Shield of Massachusetts (BCBSMA) devoted their time and efforts to support local communities on their 15th annual Service Day. This significant event saw BCBSMA staff participating in service projects benefiting 55 non-profit organizations throughout Massachusetts, embodying the company’s mission of promoting healthy, equitable, and sustainable communities.

Emphasizing Community Commitment

Launched in 2011, Service Day has become a cherished tradition at BCBSMA, allowing employees to engage directly with various non-profits. This year, the initiative showcased an impressive turnout: approximately 1,600 employees worked at community partner sites, 500 participated in projects at the company's Hingham and Boston offices, and over 900 volunteered virtually. Each partner organization also received at least a $3,000 financial contribution to further support their vital work.

Sarah Iselin, BCBSMA’s president and CEO, expressed gratitude for the collaborative effort, stating, "We’re so grateful to be able to partner with extraordinary organizations that help feed, house, clothe and care for our neighbors across Massachusetts. At Blue Cross, Service Day is one of our favorite days – but our commitment to making our communities healthier lasts all year, every year." This statement not only reflects the company's values but also highlights a long-term dedication to community service and support.

The Impact Over 15 Years

Since the inception of Service Day, BCBSMA's contributions—both voluntary hours and financial support—have amassed to an astounding $12 million. The landmark anniversary also marks over 45,000 acts of service, with 1,228 associates having participated in all 15 annual events. Throughout these years, more than 230,000 hours have been dedicated by employees to volunteer service, emphasizing a strong culture of giving back within the organization.

Partner Organizations

Among the community partners involved this year are notable organizations such as Communities for People (Boston), Girls Inc. of Worcester, and the Greater Holyoke YMCA. A total of 200 unique partners have collaborated with BCBSMA over the years, solidifying a broad network of support across diverse sectors.

Furthermore, 11 organizations have been partnered with since the very beginning of Service Day, showcasing enduring relationships that have strengthened local communities. These include well-respected entities such as Cradles to Crayons and Franklin Park Zoo.

Looking Ahead

As BCBSMA concludes this year’s Service Day, the organization reflects on its achievements and strategizes for future initiatives aimed at community enhancement.
