Supermicro Expands Integrated Open Computing Portfolio for AI Data Centers

Introduction

Supermicro Computer, Inc. has recently unveiled its expansive integrated portfolio based on the Open Compute Project (OCP). This new offering is designed to expedite the deployment of AI data centers at rack scale, addressing the rising demand for advanced computing solutions in today's data-driven world.

Integrated Portfolio Overview

The newly integrated portfolio encompasses various components, including rack-scale AI and High-Performance Computing (HPC) systems, ORv3 and ORW racks, a 48V DC power system, networking solutions, and advanced liquid cooling technologies. This holistic approach enables higher computational density in existing and new data centers while streamlining the infrastructure process.

Charles Liang, President and CEO of Supermicro, emphasizes, "The rise of AI is redefining how data centers are designed, built, and deployed. With DCBBS, we lead this transformation." By integrating computational power, networking, power supply, advanced cooling, software, and services into validated rack-scale solutions, Supermicro simplifies operations, ultimately accelerating innovation.

Accelerated Deployment

Supermicro's Data Center Building Block Solutions® (DCBBS) plays a crucial role in enabling faster deployment and operation for AI infrastructures. This allows customers to decrease their Time to Market (TTM) and Time to Operate (TTO) by delivering essential AI infrastructure more rapidly and efficiently.

Enhanced Operational Efficiency

Utilizing best practices from the OCP community, data center operators can enhance compute density and energy efficiency for AI and HPC workloads. The infrastructure is fundamentally based on an open and validated rack-level foundation, including a combination of systems, busbars, and cooling solutions that facilitate efficient operations to accelerate TTM and TTO.

Dirk Van Slyke, Vice President of Marketing at OCP, added, "Customers need an open infrastructure that can adapt to the rapidly evolving demands of AI while acknowledging their data center realities." Supermicro's OCP-approved systems, racks, power supplies, and cooling components come together in validated rack-scale solutions to simplify integration and maximize facility capacity and efficiency.

Innovative Cooling Solutions

The introduction of ORv3 and ORW racks optimizes CPU and GPU systems with a centralized 48V DC bus, which significantly reduces the complexity of server power supply and cabling. This design supports higher density configurations and is complemented by Supermicro's Direct-to-Chip liquid cooling (DLC-2), which provides efficient heat dissipation from critical components.

The RDHx units act as heat exchangers mounted at the back of the ORv3 and ORW racks, effectively removing residual heat from server outputs before it enters the data center. Cooling capacities range from 10 kW to 120 kW, allowing operators to practically increase rack density in both new AI facilities and existing data centers.

Comprehensive Management Solutions

Operators can monitor and manage the entire DCBBS portfolio via SuperCloud Composer®, using industry-standard protocols. Supermicro's software suite, including SuperCloud Director, Automation Assistant, and Developer Console, empowers organizations to manage modern AI factories, enterprise data centers, and NeoCloud infrastructure through a unified platform.

Networking Innovations

To further enhance its offering, Supermicro provides a range of AI networking solutions featuring air and liquid-cooled 800G and 1.6T Ethernet switches, built on Broadcom's state-of-the-art silicon. The company's Enterprise Advanced SONiC Networking Operating System grants customers the flexibility needed to select the optimal network architecture for their performance, energy, and scalability needs, as AI and large-scale data center landscapes continue to evolve.

Conclusion

Supermicro's integrated approach towards building and implementing production-ready AI infrastructure encompasses everything from rack-scale systems to complete AI factories. By synergizing engineering with leading technology ecosystems, Supermicro helps organizations reduce implementation complexity and total ownership costs while maximizing performance and efficiency.
