Notable recipients included the Industrial Technology Research Institute (ITRI), the Metal Industries Research & Development Centre (MIRDC), and the Taiwan Textile Research Institute (TTRI). ITRI’s Groundbreaking Innovations


ITRI notably secured three gold and two silver awards, showcasing its innovative prowess. One of the highlighted innovations was LigamiX™, a revolutionary solution co-developed with TTRI. LigamiX™ addresses enduring challenges associated with conventional artificial ligaments, such as poor biocompatibility, inflammation issues, and risks of material degradation leading to breakage. By harnessing polymer-bioceramic composite fibers within a porous bionic textile structure, LigamiX™ outperformed existing products, offering up to three times the strength and promoting both bone regeneration and tissue adherence. What’s more, this innovation transformed a basic textile material worth less than $1 into an artificial ligament valued at an impressive $2,500 per unit.

Additionally, ITRI's Prognosis Monitoring System (PMS), which utilizes AI technology to monitor equipment conditions and predict failures, illustrates how innovation can avert substantial financial losses. During one instance in semiconductor manufacturing, PMS successfully prevented a potential loss of $5 million by avoiding unexpected shutdowns. This technology has since found applications across various industries, including machine tools, energy, and petrochemicals.

Another gold winner, Sustainable Pavement Material Recycling, revolutionizes asphalt recycling processes. This first-of-its-kind technology utilizes a unique biological agent and water-based heating method to convert 100% of reclaimed asphalt pavement (RAP) into reusable materials. The expected annual reduction in quarrying could reach approximately 4.85 million tons, significantly lessening carbon emissions by 270,000 tons each year.

Contributions from MIRDC & TTRI


MIRDC made a significant mark, earning two silver and two bronze awards. The ThermoMind™ Smart Energy-efficiency Combustion System addresses the inefficiencies of traditional furnaces which struggled with substantial heat loss. Specifically designed for energy-intensive industrial applications, ThermoMind™ provides real-time combustion adjustments and facilitates waste heat recovery, leading to over 110,000 metric tons in reduced carbon emissions to date. Another innovation, MagicABC, employs an AI-driven Speech-Language Pathology Agent designed to assist children with language delays. This interactive system targets the shortage of Mandarin-speaking professionals in the field, showcasing the potential of technology in education and healthcare.

Meanwhile, TTRI received accolades for its revolutionary A Slice of Running Shoe innovation. This advancement integrates precision melt-blown automation to condense the conventional shoe assembly process from eight steps down to just two, resulting in significant efficiency gains. Additionally, its CellNet™ Leukocyte Reduction Filter, a collaboration with Sangtech Lab, enhances blood transfusion safety by effectively removing white blood cells from blood products, employing a cleaner, carbon-efficient manufacturing process.
