Nakatsu City Partners with Oikura for Waste Reuse Initiative to Promote Sustainable Society

Nakatsu City Teams Up with Oikura



Nakatsu City in Oita Prefecture, led by Mayor Masanori Okutsuka, is proud to announce a partnership with Market Enterprise Inc., based in Chuo-ku, Tokyo. Starting from May 12, 2026, the two entities are launching a collaborative initiative focusing on the reuse of unwanted items to tackle local community issues. The project employs Oikura, Market Enterprise's reuse platform, aiming to establish an effective system for reusing unwanted items rather than discarding them, and in doing so, aims to reduce waste and promote a circular economy in Nakatsu City.

Background and Context



In its commitment to achieving SDGs (Sustainable Development Goals), Nakatsu City has engaged in various initiatives, including publishing information on unwanted item transfers and organizing recycling flea markets. However, the city has faced challenges due to rising waste disposal costs and an increasing number of elderly citizens finding it difficult to dispose of large items. Additionally, many of the items discarded as waste are still reusable, highlighting the need for enhanced reuse activities and public awareness.
