A Wave of Change in Korean Churches as Pastors Embrace Shincheonji's Teachings
A Historic Bible Seminar: Shincheonji Church Draws Attention
On May 17, 2025, the Shincheonji Church of Jesus hosted a groundbreaking Bible seminar titled "Bible Seminar on the Fulfillment of Revelation," which attracted an unexpected crowd of over 500 pastors at the Shincheonji Peace Training Center in Cheongpyeong, Gyeonggi Province. Originally intended for just 200 participants, the seminar had to be relocated outdoors due to the considerable turnout, underscoring the growing curiosity and interest among religious leaders in the teachings of Shincheonji, a group some have previously labeled heretical.
The seminar was led by Man Hee Lee, the Chairman of Shincheonji Church of Jesus, who captivated attendees with his insights on the interpretations of the Book of Revelation. He confidently testified to the prophecies and their fulfillment across all 22 chapters, drawing on personal experiences rather than formal theological training. "Everyone wants to go to heaven and gain eternal life, but Revelation warns that altering the text leads to curses and prevents entry into heaven," he cautioned, stating that it was crucial to address these issues directly.
Lee urged the pastors to reflect on their beliefs, challenging them to consider whether adherence to traditional denominations truly equated to orthodoxy. He quoted Jesus, emphasizing the importance of understanding the Bible without bias or preconceived notions. "If anything I've said is wrong, please point it out," he encouraged, advocating for transparency and dialogue.
Many attendees were taken aback by Lee’s ability to articulate the entirety of Revelation without referring to biblical texts, a skill that many found impressive given his lack of formal education in theology. One pastor, who had previously dismissed Shincheonji as a cult, reflected, "Now that I've examined it for myself, I realize it isn't. If the teachings align with the Bible, we must acknowledge them." He further cautioned against repeating historical mistakes of dismissing divine work, reminiscent of attitudes during the first coming of Christ.
The seminar seems to symbolize a shift in the perception of Shincheonji within Korean religious circles, as a growing number of pastors seek firsthand knowledge of its doctrinal teachings. According to the church, 858 congregations across Korea have now signed memorandums of understanding (MOUs) for scriptural exchanges, with 100 churches adopting the Shincheonji name, indicating a broader acceptance and willingness to explore these teachings further.
In concluding the seminar, Chairman Lee expressed optimism for the future, stating, "Jesus' promises have always been fulfilled, and Revelation will be no different. Let's become one in the Bible and one family under God." Expecting a rise in educational outreach and religious transformation throughout 2025, Shincheonji remains hopeful that its revelations will usher in a new era for the church and its followers across Korea.
With this significant event in the backdrop, it seems that Korean churches may be on the verge of a seismic shift towards understanding and integrating Shincheonji's interpretations of scriptures and prophecies, marking a pivotal moment in the religious landscape of the country.
