Dream Weekend for Maddi Gordon
In an impressive display of skill and determination, 22-year-old Maddi Gordon made a memorable mark in her racing career by winning her first NHRA Top Fuel event at the Summit Racing Equipment NHRA Nationals held in Norwalk, Ohio. This victory comes just in her 10th professional race, showcasing her rapid ascent in the drag racing scene.
Gordon, hailing from Paso Robles, California, took home the win in a thrilling final round against veteran racer Antron Brown. She clocked an incredible time of 3.786 seconds at a speed of 333.16 mph in her powerful Carlyle Tools dragster. Although Brown had the edge off the starting line, Gordon’s swift and strategic driving allowed her to catch up and sweep past him to capture the victory.
This triumphant day was not only significant for Maddi but for her team as well. Ron Capps, her team owner and a three-time world champion, celebrated his own milestone with his 80th career Funny Car win against Jack Beckman, making it a historic sweep for the team.
Gordon couldn't contain her excitement, exclaiming, "It literally doesn't get any better than this." The thrill of victory was amplified by her father Doug's success in the sportsman ranks at the same event. Reflecting on her emotions, she mentioned, "I wanted that win so bad. For my dad to win, and then Ron to win, it's like the pressure is on, right? I'm just so grateful for this opportunity. This is truly the best day of my life."
Indeed, Maddi's path to this victory has been paved with hard work and determination. One of her proudest moments was when she realized the faith Ron Capps had in her as a driver. She acknowledged the immense opportunity she was given, stating, "Never in my life did I think I would be driving a Top Fuel dragster, but Ron made what felt like the impossible become a reality."
To reach this monumental final, Maddi defeated some tough competition, including the likes of Spencer Massey and racing legend Tony Stewart, alongside Top Fuel points leader Shawn Langdon. This win not only earned her a place in the history books as the eighth female in NHRA Top Fuel history but also boosted her ranking to fourth in the series points during her rookie season.
Maddi Gordon's extraordinary achievement exemplifies her unwavering spirit and dedication to the sport, and she proves that her potential knows no bounds. Following this victory, anticipation builds for the next NHRA Mission Foods Drag Racing Series event, which will take place from July 17-19 at Sonoma Raceway, where fans hope to see Gordon continue her remarkable journey in the world of drag racing.
As the season progresses, it will be exciting to follow Maddi Gordon's career and watch as she paves her way to making even more history in drag racing. For more news and updates about NHRA and Maddi's future races, fans can visit
