The Inspiration Behind Otetsutabi


The founder, Rina Nagaoka, hails from Owase City in Mie Prefecture. While she found her hometown captivating, she often encountered confusion about its location when discussing it in Tokyo after moving for college. Frustrated by this misunderstanding, she began traveling for work, realizing that numerous regions across Japan offer incredible experiences. Motivated by a desire to showcase these lesser-known locales, she left her corporate job to travel across Japan for six months, assisting locals struggling with labor shortages. In 2018, Rina established Otetsutabi to create a new purpose for travel in these areas, ensuring they attract visitors despite lacking popular tourist attractions.

By working locally, participants can forge connections that extend beyond conventional tourism. Each encounter fosters enduring relationships, cultivating a new audience for these regions.
