Christmas Concert 2025
Prepare yourselves for a heartwarming event, the COCOLON Christmas Concert 2025, taking place on December 20 at Tokyo Women's Plaza in Shibuya, Tokyo. This special concert is designed for families with children who have severe physical and mental disabilities, providing a unique opportunity to experience live music in a welcoming atmosphere.
Organized by the nonprofit organization EPO with its community initiative COCOLON, this concert aims to facilitate enjoyment and connection among families with children requiring medical care. According to a 2019 survey from Japan's Ministry of Health, Labour and Welfare, 65.3% of families with children needing medical support reported significant challenges in going out. The concert addresses these challenges by creating an inclusive space where families can enjoy dynamic performances together.
At the Christmas Concert 2025, children faced with disabilities will have the chance to hear live music up close, alongside their siblings and parents. This concert isn't just about listening; it embodies interaction and shared joy in music. It welcomes all, whether in a wheelchair or needing special assistance, allowing them to engage comfortably with the performance.
Innovative Venue Design
Unlike traditional concert halls, this event will feature a unique floor space with cushions rather than standard seating. This design allows children who may struggle to sit to experience the concert in whichever position is most comfortable for them. They can lie down, sit, or remain in their strollers while enjoying the music, making it a truly accommodating environment.
EPO's expertise in child development services ensures that everything is prepared for a smooth event, covering aspects such as medical device power sources and diaper-changing facilities. Concertgoers can relax knowing their medical needs will be met in the indoor venue.
A Musical Experience
The concert will feature performances by “Yama Kids,” a talented group of musicians specialized in children's music. They will perform a festive array of songs, from beloved classics to interactive pieces enhancing the children's experience. The concert format offers an intimate relationship between the audience and performers, ensuring that families can connect with real music in a relaxed atmosphere.
The event will also encourage participation, allowing selected families to perform on stage, enhancing their experience with interactive musical activities.
This concert is a joint effort of the COCOLON community and the special support service “Kokone,” which operates multiple facilities in Tokyo, dedicated to children with severe disabilities.
